If I’m using Frontpage to build my websites, will that have a negative effect on my SEO efforts?
What about Website Tonight, the template driven tool that GoDaddy offers?
Curious about opinions…
June 23, 2004 at 6:03 pm #650844vladcizsolMemberFrontpage will not effect you negatively. Pre made templates can if you dont significantly modify them.
June 23, 2004 at 6:22 pm #650845AnonymousInactiveNot to contradict the Professor because he is definitely more versed in this than me, but someone told me front page was a bit heavy.
June 23, 2004 at 6:27 pm #650846vladcizsolMember“Heavy” has nothing to do with SEO. My rankings bear this out.
Geeks are fond of throwing rocks at Front Page due to heavy code, but it has nothing to do with SEO placement and there are thousands of websites successfully ranked that prove this.
June 23, 2004 at 9:48 pm #650849AnonymousInactiveThe newest version of Front Page is not heavy at all, and even has an “optimize html” option that can clean up old pages nicely.
It’s not the most important thing but code bloat can hurt a page’s ranking. Bots read code, not page text. Your code is where keyword density is judged, so don’t have all kinds of meaningless bloat in there for bots to have to wade through.
Again, Front Page 2003 is fine, even great, for building clean/lean pages.

I was having buyer’s remorse about my Frontpage purchase, but I feel a lot better about it now.
I’m planning a relaunch of a couple of my websites pretty soon.

Not directly related to their template tool, but GoDaddy hosted sites did have problems with Google, as Google mistakenly presumed that a site with GoDaddy nameservers was just a placeholder. I have no idea whether this issue was fixed, though.
June 24, 2004 at 12:46 am #650863AnonymousInactiveI guess it was fixed, because I have had sites in the top ten for obscure search terms in the past.
Of course, these days….well, I’m trying to learn SEO, let’s put it that way.
