    Hi there,

I’ve got two similar domain names: one a .com and the other a .co.uk.

Ideally, I’d like to set them up so that all visitors to the .co.uk address (for example) get forwarded to the .com website. But I’d like Google to treat them as two separate sites as I’m looking to target the UK audience specifically.

Is this possible as far as SEO goes and if so, how could I set this up without being penalised?

    Thanks alot for your help

If you would like them to be treated as two different sites you will have to actually have two different sites and if you don’t want any penalty you will need unique content on both.

I would think some “hybrid” solution would be to have a 1-2 page site on the .co.uk with all “internal” links leading to the .com sort’a like having a “landing page” for UK visitors. Otherwise just 301 it.

you will get slammed for spoofing with that thought.. Never treat visitors any differently than you treat SE’s or they will ALL ban you

Why do you want to send UK visitors to a .com? Be proud of .co.uk!!! :)

You need to set the .com as the top level domain (tld)

The .co.uk, can have it’s own mets tags without a google penalty. Do a search on it. It’s all done using a 301. The lady that always speaks at CAP discussed this in the Bahamas, maybe someone could get this info from her.

You won’t get slammed if you do it right, also it’s not spoofing if you inform google about it. The NY Times does it and it’s 100% ok with google. Check googles webmaster tools, I think you can do alot of this on there.

Why do you want to send UK visitors to a .com? Be proud of .co.uk!!!

Because a .co.uk is intended for people from the UK only and he wants google to see that his site is global.
