Aside from faster pipes, part of this effort needs to address websites conserving bandwidth. I recently did an analysis on a few of my sites, and guess who the biggest bandwidth hog was……yup, you guessed it, Google ! I recently introduced Google Analytics (which is a pretty decent tool, by the way) to several of my sites, and GWT (Google Webmaster Tools) has shown a remarkable slowdown with those sites. So, I looked into it a bit more, and as it turns out GA is a real bandwidth hog. I am unable to compress their java codes using GZip, since I host on Windows-based servers, but suffice it to say, Google needs to address some of its home-grown bandwidth requirements, before they start addressing the size of Internet pipes……
