I look at the ACLU as a necessary evil. It’s a nasty job but someone’s got to do it. Some of the cases they choose to represent are the scum of the earth; but that scum is entitled to a fair trial and the courts can’t ignore laws and rights just because it’s a nasty or unpopular case. Hence the ACLU has a really bad PR problem. But lately they seem to have picked only those ‘ugly’ cases. Why has it taken them so long to starting ‘thinking’ about accepting this case? 10 years ago, they would have been calling YOU. Now they spend all their time chasing crosses in court yards and cemeteries and defending rapists and child molesters/murderers. I think their priorities are a bit out of whack. They should have jumped all over this months ago.

Has any foreign country actually ever succeeded in changing the US government’s mind especially on internal policy?

    Don’t think so.

Vietnam and Korea successfully got the US to introduce the draft …
    :tounge2:

IRAQ successfully removed the republicans from power?
    :tounge2:

But you’re right – the US is notoriously resistant to outside influence.

At least if the ACLU got involved, it would so enrage the far right conservatives that it would shine a HUGE light on the way the Anti-Banking Gambling bill was secretly attached to the Port Security Act, therefore not allowing for open Senate debate or even awareness that it was there.

But, arguing politics will get us nowhere.

ya I think you have to give it up to the man for staying committed to issues that truly are the more important matters …. issues that our children will pay the prices for W’s greed and refusal to recognize what’s probably the most important matter to face this or any country’s future when I’m sure there were times after the election when he had to feel like ….. screw it! I’ve tried and the fact is …I’ll be dead and gone before this all is a problem I’ll have to face … and instead he’s stayed at it.

Wonder where we’d be now if he’d won?

I don’t know for sure OG would be in any better shape but I do believe the more important matters would have been addressed much more comptetently.

of course that said: ……. it ain’t saying much. at this point I’m tempted to say almost anybody else would have done a better job of recognizing we’re literally destroying our atmosphere and doing next to nothing about it than W has done.
