Has anyone else had a site totally drop out of google’s serps very recently? This happened to one of my sites about one hour ago. It’s the strangest thing. Not sure if it’s to do with any current google updates that are taking place, or because I optimised all my meta tags a few days ago, or someone has done something, hmmm… The site is still in the directory and still has a high pr, but not in the serps since about an hour ago. Anyway, if anyone else is experiencing the same thing, please let me know. I wonder what is going on.

It happens to me all of the time. Most of the time the website comes back, I think it’s actually due to database issues on their end. Try not to worry about it.

If your website was truly banned you would show a PR of 0.

This has happened to me, too. It’s frustrating, but eventually the site should reappear in the serps.

I’ve gone through a checklist of possibilities, and now I’m pretty sure it’s because I changed all the meta tags a few days ago. Another site that I modified the meta tags for has also taken a hit. If this is the case, then I should be back in there soon… i hope :) It’s almost seems as if google will take a site out of the serps while it re-indexes and re-ranks it or something like that.

It seems unlikely that the Meta data would do this, unless you were keyword stuffing. Keeping your Meta keywords to a reasonable number 25 or so, should be absolutely fine. Google claims to not even look at the Meta data btw, or if they do it is a super minor part of their overall algorithm.

When I update a website it sometimes disappears from google for a week or so. Last time I added statcounter to 3 websites and they all disappeared, of course I was panicking.

This is why I try not to update my websites on a frequent basis.

Sounds scary but it will sort its self out I am sure! Google has a scary amount of power!

My site was re-gaining about 50 positions per day and almost halfway to where it was a month ago… Then 48 hours ago, I updated the site and removed some listings, added others, etc… and guess what happened? ….. I dropped in the serps exactly like last time. Conclusion: Google doesn’t like sites to be updated on any regular basis. What a load of crap.

I must disagree. It’s not about updates to your site, but about what you update. If You placed some new links, this might screw something.

I deleted 2 links and added 1 new one. This has never affected me in the past.

Google is changing all the time. I still think, that maybe you linked to banned sites or just got unlucky.

I didn’t link to a banned site. I only list casinos on my front pages. These are reputable casinos that 99% of us promote. Link partners have their own internal directory on the site. Anyway, another site that I added the same front page casino link on has also disappeared. This is not a banned casino. It has a pr5. So I guess changing / adding front page links is probably not a good idea if you want to keep your positions steady in the search engines.
