Look, this happened in Aussie in 2001 and no one batted an eyebrow. Shows how much impact we have on the world political scene!
Much of the current US stuff is so close to our our bill it isn’t funny, in fact I am certain you bastards pinched a lot of it.
We spent a bundle a while ago on a lawyer to ensure we were operating within the law and the lawyer in question was a former parliamentary lawyer…ie. he used to draft this stuff for many years.
His recommendation was:
a) A disclaimer.
b) POSSIBLE IP blocking.The loophole is a thing called due diligence and this is where you have taken steps to ensure that you have not deliberately targeted said players using certainly a) above and if you want to get anal also b) above.
In the unlikely scenario an affiliate were to be dragged into the courts due diligence would see the case dismissed IMHO.
I echoe these sentiments exactly. I believe webmasters are over reacting to this current state of affairs.
The problem with me is trying to articulate this stuff in a formatt everyone may understand. I could maybe spend the time and write a 2000 page document on the subject but would it be worth it?
But I will say this no webmaster will get sued over this. In a worst case scenrio if someone did get sued it would be thrown out of court. The internet has yet has to be defined under the U.S Wire Act is just one murky area amoungst many others.
This is the internet a resource for free flow of information. World Wide Web is the facilitator of this freedom.
In any case a lot more could be said, but lets don’t be so worried over something that is so irrevelant.
