$7M!

I wonder if the DOJ really thinks it can stop online gambling with these short-term, poor tactics. The only thing they do actually is making more publicity around online gambling… (and taking money)
January 25, 2006 at 8:27 am #681825AnonymousInactiveMy prediction is the DOJ looses steam just after the mid-term elections to Congress (assuming a more liberal set of folks).

Why these people are breaking down at the threats of the DOJ is beyond me. What in the world could they be threatening them with, their lives at that very moment?
The only thing I can imagine is that they were pushing sports betting; which does fall under the wire act. But even at that, I cant see them breaking down and handing over millions + agreeing to an anti-gambling campaign.
If this thing we do is so illegal why isn’t the casino city dude in jail and broke? Heck he came to their doors announcing himself, this is what I do, it’s not illegal, and I am going to continue doing it.
Lose steam? Blasphemy, they need to lose more than that for the BS they are perpetrating.
January 27, 2006 at 8:58 am #682009AnonymousInactiveThe Sporting News will shell out $7.2 million in a settlement with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for accepting ads for illegal sports gambling phone services and Web sites.
Come on guys… that’s blatently in the face of the wire act. They should have expected to get nailed.
Just remember that 2 years ago we had no televised poker. We had no poker rooms advertising on TV. We had no legislation in North Dakota.
Things are getting better… the DOJ just got a a hanging curve ball with this particular case and blasted it out of the park.
