I was wondering about whether to go to G2E later this year to check it out – the trip would be part vacation, part research into what is going on in the casino world.
Have any affiliates here gone before? What was it like and did you find it at all useful?
I guess that just having a vacation in a casino resort alone would be great, but it would be even better if I could justify it to myself as a genuine business expense!
March 31, 2008 at 11:24 pm #764682AnonymousInactiveI go there almost every year.
It’s a big exhibition for land casino operators, it has displays of gambling machines like slots and video poker and what have you, and all sorts of things you need to run a casino.
I find it interesting and usually there are a number of us rattling around in Vegas at the time.
I’ll likely go this year and look at the remote gambling devices they are coming up with.

It doesn’t do much but gives you access to a private meeting area with internet, drink food etc etc.
Oh – And G2E USA – HUGE – It is massively impressive and a nice way to see the new games being demo’ed – My tip is register for the F&B show as well – It is basically a massive section of food and drink people of every type you can think of – I spent hours in there eating samples and tasting new spirits and wines on the market – best lunch ever

Think I will go to the Vegas one, I love it there – I think that is mostly due to the fact I like americans, nice open people, especially compared to the experience of living in London. The F&B sounds really good too – free food and drink is my favorite
Any tips on when to book, hotels etc? Do they sell out of rooms quickly, or is a late deal a possibility?
April 1, 2008 at 1:47 pm #764739AnonymousInactiveI have never had a problem with getting a room – On the G2E site they normally do deals with the hotels. If you are looking for a hotel that is closest to G2E chose the Hilton as you can walk there, but it certainly isn’t the most fun hotel to stay at if you are going for a holiday
April 1, 2008 at 1:53 pm #764741PaolinoMemberThanks, that’s reassuring.
Anywhere on the strip will do as long as it’s good value and in a fun location, just wondered if the conference was so big that Vegas sells out?
Last time I stayed at Tropicana, which was fine for me. Good value, I thought, but I don’t have a lot to compare it to as I haven’t stayed in any others except the Golden Nugget. That was good too, but I don’t want to be downtown for this event.

I fell in love with the Palazzo, it’s magnificent, but the prices are higher.
None of the casinos are too far from the convention center – at most I have paid $ 10 to $15 for cab fare.
Don’t try to catch a cab when the conference lets out – everyone will be trying to and there is considerable waiting time in the hot sun. Either leave early, or settle down at starbucks inside and watch the queue shrink before you go.
Keep in mind that it is extremely hot that time of year, so plan to do any walking in the evening after it has cooled off some, not ever in the straight sun. The hospitals there stay busy with foolish tourists and sunstrokes.

I’m really excited about going now – just hope that nothing crops up that means I can’t go
