Some major sites across the web including wikipedia, mozilla, twitpic, and many other user driven sites, are going into a “blackout” to raise awareness about SOPA. Just tried to go and read about something on Wikipedia and got this image.
The internet feels so empty right now :sarcasm::Cry:
I think it’s a great move. Social media has been stirring and this is definitely raising awareness! Just sucks not having Wikipedia…always made me look smarter than my peers!

Wordpress.org and Wired.com have the best ones I’ve seen so far. Great to see them supporting the protest

If Google had actually gone down for a day… now that would of been something, they obviously weren’t that supportive though

So true! Could you imagine the madness that would have caused??? Between Google itself, gmail and google analytics, I’m thinking that would have caused way too much of a headache for people on a personal and professional front for Google to go that far- no?
The video in Matt Cutts video really puts it all into perspective – and seriously if you are in the US… do something about it please.

For opponents of SOPA and PIPA, Wednesday’s internet blackout and Google’s was a huge success. Eighteen Senators changed their position on PIPA, Paul Tassi reports; and 4.5 million people signed Google’s anti-censorship petition, according to the LA Times.

And about time lobbying like this happened from what I would call “grass roots” – not the money, but the voice.

Nine co-sponsors, five in the Senate and four House members, began withdrawing their support for Hollywood-backed measures to combat piracy. Internet companies devoted home pages yesterday to opposing the bills, threatening a traditional lobbying effort led by the Motion Picture Association of America that assembled bipartisan support for the legislation.
