U.S. Troops Are Asked To Pray For Bush & Co.
Online Journal Contributing Editor
Incredible as it seems, US soldiers in the Persian Gulf have been asked to pray for Bush and his advisors.
They are also asked to fill in a postcard-like form that declares their commitment to pray for Bush, and to mail it to the White House. Further, they are given specific prayers to recite each day of the week;
MONDAY’S prayer reads: “Pray that the President and his advisors will be strong and courageous to do what is right, regardless of critics.” As you’ll see, the wording gets worse as the week progresses.
This is the bright idea of In Touch Ministries, an Evangelical Christian media giant that broadcast “the word” in 30 languages across the world. They thought up the idea, they wrote the prayers, and they’re the ones that are passing out leaflets to US soldiers, telling them of “A Christian Duty in Time of War”. The USA President, the White House and Pentagon have officially given their full permission and fully concurred that this should be done.
Never mind that it is the soldiers themselves who are in need of prayers (not to mention the Iraqi people), after all, they’re the ones who face mortal danger and lasting illness. In Touch Ministries think that it’s Bush, Wolfowitz and their like who need prayers for their safety and health, and they think that these prayers should also be coming from the US soldiers.
The following is the remainder of the week’s prescribed prayers. I leave you to read them, and to think about them. They are indicative of the times we live in, and of the powers under which we live in these times.
TUESDAY: Pray that the President and his advisors have the unified support of the American people as well as of other countries around the world.
WEDNESDAY: Pray that the President and his advisors and their families will be safe, healthy, well-rested, and free from fear.
THURSDAY: Pray that the President and his advisors will be successful in their mission and that world peace will be realized.
FRIDAY: Pray that the President and his advisors will recognize their divine appointment, and will govern accordingly to compassion, mercy, and truth.
SATURDAY: Pray that the President and his advisors will remember to keep their eyes on the Almighty God and be mindful that He is in control.
SUNDAY: Pray that the President and his advisors will seek God And His wisdom daily and not rely on their own understanding.
