Hi,
I’m a new aff and as such went thru and signed up at one of your casinos … which to your credit … the sign up showed up in my account and all seemed good until I received a letter telling me of a great promotion offer at one of your sister casinos.
the (big) problem I have with that is whether or not I as an affiliate am getting credit if the player decides to signup at the sister casino?
Ifnot, that greatly takes away from any attraction I have for promoting your casinos since the letter and I quote:
Our 400 Group sister casino, Da Vinci’s Gold is giving away $3000 this weekend! This contest is open to new and existing players! Scroll down to see contest details!
I won’t go on any further until I receive an answer to my question since IF I’m getting commission for the player jumping from the one casino to the other … then I am most pleased.
I would like everyone to note that this offer was sent from the casino (Paradise8) where I had signed up … and that I have not at any time ever signed up for any kind of email from Davinci’s Gold.
thank you for your time in replying to this matter.
ps.
I would also like to note that the links in the email are completely direct and have no aff link code that I could see … so I’m pretty damn sure its not there.
October 28, 2006 at 2:20 pm #713756AnonymousInactiveThat’s a very good question!
October 28, 2006 at 4:45 pm #713769AnonymousInactiveI agree and would like to know the answer. I got several of these today and not one of them with AFF Tags associated with them
Not good. Maybe some of us should run a test on these?
October 28, 2006 at 7:27 pm #713777AnonymousGuestwell if they go ahead and give us the player across the board then I understand its no reason to include aff tags.
that said: I find it most distasteful if the above is not true and I get an email from paradise8 that says nothing towards encouraging the player to return to the casino I have them signed up at … but goes way long towards encouraging the player to go sign up at the sister casino.
and yes, I’ve now received 3 of those emails too.
October 29, 2006 at 12:51 am #713809AnonymousInactiveHey Guys,
Sorry for the late reply on this one … I’ve been away from the computer for most of the day. Unfortunately for now, we don’t have the tracking in place to accommodate this function.
I had a chat with our developers before making this post and it’s definitely something that’s being worked on, however I was unable to get a definitive timeline for completion of the project.
Considering that I came from the affiliate side of this business … I couldn’t agree more that this is something we need to implement in the near future. From what I’ve been told, it’s quite the coding circus to put something like this in place, however it’s not impossible … just a labor intensive project.
So … this is the part where I ask you guys what sort of an interim resolution you’d like to see. I’m certainly open for suggestions while we’re waiting for a permanent fix to be implemented. Have any of you heard of a workaround for something like this from other programs?
Again … I’m totally on board with you guys here and I’ll continue to push the issue with the development team, however if there’s something I can do while we’re waiting … I’m all ears.
Cheers,
October 29, 2006 at 1:06 am #713811AnonymousInactiveJust allocate the player to the affiliate period?
October 29, 2006 at 1:34 am #713812AnonymousGuestHi Justin,
if there’s something I can do while we’re waiting
well while I’m thrilled at the idea of crediting us with the player across the board … much like Referback did back in the day (if I’m not mistaken … and if I am … keep it to yourselves … we’ve got a good thing going here) … but seriously … ya, that’s great and a wise choice to make since under the circumstances we’d have barbequed 400 right here … right now for what would undeniably be one of the tackiest moves ever (I mean if you hadn’t agreed to crediting the player across the boards) …
and I shouldn’t have to add to that. Sending out cross-promotions while at the same time not even bothering to send SOME sort of effort to get our players to return to where we signed them up is outrageous and frankly I’d have yanked down links so fast it would have made you wonder if they were ever actually up.
… sorry, but I am needless to say a bit put out at the thought.
that said: I’m now a happy camper if I understand you correctly that you are going to give us the players across the board. IS that correct?
…………………………………
assuming that is true. Then in answer to your question
if there’s something I can do while we’re waiting
……. well I don’t see a problem. Cross-promote all you want. Just make sure the commissions land where they’re suppose to.
If that seems too big a task, then the obvious other possible approach (the only other one that won’t send me wanting to light the fire for the bbq) is to simply stop sending the players offers to join the other casinos!
seems a no-brainer to me. All of the above really.
and I again apologize for my steaming but I was incredibly outraged when I got that email incentive to join a different sister casino and then saw my affiliate link wasn’t anywhere in sight. … and not even a damn “oh, and btw, we wouldn’t mind if you came back and played at the casino our valued partners worked so hard to get you signed up at in the first place” to be found anywhere in the email.
sorry again. Its just coming out. I’ll go have a drink and come back expecting some news that’s as outrageously wonderful – as to match the outrageously unbelievable that I felt when I first saw that email.
…. hang in there Justin. You made a smart play by not handing us some BS excuse so you’re still not a bad guy in my book. Come back to us with a righteous reply and I’ll even send you a Christmas card come the season.
October 29, 2006 at 2:27 am #713815AnonymousInactiveOh, boy. 😡 :nervous:

From what I’ve been told, it’s quite the coding circus to put something like this in place, however it’s not impossible … just a labor intensive project.:roflmao: Nonsense. Fire your developer and hire someone who knows what they are doing. This is NOT difficult to set up.
Every player referred by an affiliate should be “tagged” as soon as they sign up. Then, when you send out a cross marketing email, all you need to do is attach the affiliate tag to all of the outbound links in the email (this applies only to those players who were referred through an affiliate link). If the player didn’t come through an affiliate, then attach a default “house” tag, or just leave the URL tagless. Use if/else statements to make this happen.
Additionally, you should set something up that checks the name and email address against existing names and email addresses in the database. This would be useful if a player decided to type in the URL instead of clicking on the link in the email.
If the email address is already present in the database (and if there is an affiliate tag associated with it), then simply “Update” that row of the database table (instead of adding a new row, which would not be associated with the affiliate).
Quote:what sort of an interim resolution you’d like to see.My suggestion is that you immediately stop the the cross marketing campaigns. You wouldn’t even have the player contact information without your affiliates. To lure them away from the original “tagged” casino is STEALING, plain and simple. :nono:
I would also suggest that you check the database for duplicate names and email addresses. If you find duplicates, check to see if any of these were referred by an affiliate. If so, add the correct affiliate tag to the untagged rows, or merge the duplicate entries into one row (that row being the one with the affiliate tag, or course).
I will not be able to respond to this thread after tonight — Engineer is taking a much needed vacation. This will be the first thread I look for when I come back, though. :wink-wink
October 29, 2006 at 5:11 am #713832AnonymousGuestHi again,
Justin I’m definitely needing a confirmation reply from you sometime soon.
I’ve sent you guys 51 downloads in the last 3 days and under present circumstances I’m very much considering taking down your links an replacing them with a program that hasn’t proven to … well like E said, if you’re not giving us the players across the boards then its out and out theft of players from my POV and I’d imagine most other affs as well.
If I get a reply that we’ve got the players (once signed under us) regardless of which of your casinos they choose to play then I’m a happy camper. Anything less at this point in time … all things considered … and I don’t trust your program any further than I could toss a piano one handed.
If that don’t make my position clear then ….
So please get back to us ASAP because if I go to the trouble of replacing your links I’m not going to be in a favorable mood to have to go back and put them back up. I am taking on your program with basically no idea of what I’m dealing with … which for me is a hell of a stretch to begin with. So I’m sure with that said … you can understand why i’m sitting here bouncing off the walls with my finger on the trigger.
I want very much to be a productive partner .. thus providing the both of us with a positive result to this entering of parties but after receiving those emails … well I think you see and fully understand why and where i’m going with that thought.
So please don’t keep me waiting too long.
thank you again for your time and consideration in this very pressing matter.
October 29, 2006 at 1:54 pm #713847AnonymousInactiveThe easiest way to do it is to tag the player as belonging to one affiliate only. No matter how the player arrives and which casino he plays, if he is already under an affiliate tag, it is that tag that must apply.
Simple.

I can’t see how there is anything fair about giving another affiliate credit for my referral. There is no way in the world I will work with a program that does this. Are you saying that if I got scott as a player 6 months ago, then scott went to G+C 6 months later and decided to play at one of their sister casinos and they used your link, that it is fair that I get credit for that. That doesn’t seem fair at all and leaves you in the dust. He found your site with the keywords you optimize for and as a direct result of your hard work, and you should make money on that referral, period……October 29, 2006 at 3:44 pm #713857AnonymousGuestso you’re saying then that … and remember the circumstances Bonus … that you’d rather they not credit across the board and then fall victim to them sending out a cross promotion email the very next day after you’d landed that player and have them steal your player away?
get real.
October 29, 2006 at 3:52 pm #713859AnonymousInactiveI suppose that has been a discussion for years.
Some programs do it one way, some the other.
I prefer the player being tagged to the affiliate for life, it is the only way anyone can build up a decent player base, and for long term success, a player base is absolutely vital.
Both affiliates optimize and get players. To me, without lifetime revenues it’s just not worth the trouble. Lifetime revenues are what eventually gives your site it’s value and rewards you for your efforts.
As far as the industry goes, new players are it’s lifeblood. If casinos and affiliates all compete for the same players over and over again, it just exhausts resources all around and makes the industry stagnant.
Others see this differently, obviously, or we wouldn’t have both methods employed.

I am all for them taggin all cross promotions to one affiliate. I just don’t agree that just because you had the player first, that I should not get credit if they join one of their sister casinos from my website. I think you guys are suggesting its all or nothing. I see no reason why they can’t tag cross promotions to the affiliate that had them first, but keep the cold hits from another affiliates site open game. I guess if your a veteran affiliate that has a lot of the avid players under you, then this scenario works real well because you landed the player years ago and are making money from other affiliates hard work. What a deal that is. If I am not mistaken, referback does this and is why I have never marketed for them. Its pretty simple to me, if I send them the player I should make the money on it. That only seems fair to me. I work 15 hours a day to line my pockets, not yours. When I have the time I need to research more about this to find out which programs do what regarding this. I need to regress with the programs that don’t give credit to the most recent affiliate.

But yes, I should think years and years of giving your work to a program should pay off in time. You are getting paid for years and years of work. I don’t see that that is unfair at all.
Like I said above, if it’s not possible to build a player base anyplace, the business in my view is for the birds for anyone who plans to put in years of work. If you plan to be here today and gone tomorrow, your player base doesn’t matter and you are better off with CPA anyway.
