Well, the remote community I live in is in uproar. The sherriff drove in from some 50 miles away and is conducting a house to house search for a ruthless killer!
The mom and pop store within driving distance has a pair of poultry as pets. The rooster (Freckles) and his wife (Speckles) live in front of the store and greet the customers. At night, the pair sleep in a potted tree in the parking lot.
A couple of months ago there was a huge upset – someone had kidnapped Freckles! Speckles was depressed and listless. The Sherriff came and located Freckles on a near by farm. New people had moved there, and when they saw Freckles after dark in the parking lot they thought he was lost and took him to live with their chickens. They were not tried for kidnapping, but they did receive a stern reprimand.
Yesterday morning Speckles was found murdered in the parking lot. The Sherriff drove in again and is now conducting the door to door search for witnesses to this heineous crime.
Who would be so cruel and murder a chicken? Making Freckles a widower? This has all the people talking and I am sure the culprit will be found soon and punished accordingly.
This is not a made up story, this is really happening. It is the biggest crime wave we have had in ten years or more.
