it was very expensive for us europeans all the time….
so, now it’s our turn i guess….:yinyang::yinyang::yinyang:
March 12, 2008 at 7:03 pm #763130AnonymousInactiveThere was a European conference each year as well so now you get all the turns.
Also, by selecting this location rather than something around London, Barcelona, Amsterdam, etc, they have basically wiped out the US affiliates from coming. Airfare to any of those locations is only about $800 rather than $1900 to Cyprus.
March 12, 2008 at 7:55 pm #763132vladcizsolMemberItay affiliates are always free at all our events. To produce the events costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, the financial support of our partners, sponsors and vendors who pay for admission make all that possible.
Guys we would love to have events here IN the states if that were possible.
Financially it’s not.In 2006 CAP Spring Break had over 600 attendees and we had no trouble whatsoever getting the programs to sponsor the parties and events. After the passage of UIEGA many of our top programs would NOT travel near the United States or make connecting flights in the States. Attendence dropped to around 200 in 2007 at the Atlantis Resort. CAP lost well over $100,000 as we were commited for those dinners and parties that werent picked up by Sponsors and the rooms that went unbooked.
GIGSE and CAC Montreal were even bigger disasters.
Without support large events and shows can’t be put on over here at the moment. I sincerely wish that wasn’t true as I loved Miami Beach as the “home” of CAP Spring Break. I also used to really look forward to going to Las Vegas for CAC. It’s one of my favorite cities in the US.
Lets all hope and work torward a time when legislation is repealed and we can get back to having a few events each year here in the States or Canada.
Believe me when it CAN be done CAP will be there in full force.
March 12, 2008 at 7:59 pm #763133vladcizsolMemberAce buy two tickets. One Round Trip to London. One Round Trip from London to Cyprus. It can be done for less then $1900 that way. Also remember this when calculating expenses. At CAP Events, especially Spring Break we provide all your meals and enoguh drinks to destory your liver. Parties and events are also free to our attendees. So other then airfare and a very low hotel rate (Cyprus is MUCH cheaper then London) costs arent really bad at all.
Remember too that this is an INDUSTRY EVENT so it’s most likely tax deductible as a business expense for US based affiliates (consult your tax preparer or accoountant)
March 12, 2008 at 8:32 pm #763138AnonymousInactiveI do understand and agree that it cannot be in the US. I am positive that it will be an exceptional event as your events always are. I am just starting to feel that these events are leaning towards vacations rather than a business trip. We have also had great things come from the CAC and CAP events and have ALWAYS had a TON of fun but for us it is still a business trip and if it does not make sense on a ROI standpoint, we won’t be able to continue coming.
Please note, I am thankful for all you do for our industry (which is a lot) but if I don’t ever speak up, I cannot expect anyone to ever know where I am coming from.
March 12, 2008 at 8:46 pm #763139vladcizsolMemberAce how could you and Rounders Radio NOT be at the first conference specifically serving Online Poker Affiliates?
The ASOP Tournament will be our biggest ever. The ASOP bracelet is bigger and loaded with MORE diamonds ($15,000 Value). Plus the ASOP Champion will win a seat in the WSOP! Oh did I mention we will have several European Poker legends at the event and the ASOP winner will square off one of them one on one to show the world that our champions can hold their own with the pro’s!
If you are involved in Online Poker at all then this is the MUST attend conference of the year. It’s definitely good business and following the conference you get to relax, unwind, make a few deals, shmooze with your friends and party the night away at CAP Spring Break. Seems like a hell of a combination to me and well worth a plane ticket.
March 12, 2008 at 9:59 pm #763146AnonymousInactiveGuys what a lot of people have done is buy a cheap return to London and then buy the onward trip seperately – the following companies fly to Cyprus from London – We are also looking at companies that fly from Amsterdam because we understand that is also a cheap hub for you to fly to. In addition Josh (Prime Gaming) said he always flys to Tel Aviv and then books a seperate flight to Cyrpus which is normally $200 – $300

There hasn’t been a conference in Bangkok since 2001… and that one I helped organize…
March 13, 2008 at 9:19 pm #763197AnonymousInactiveHave to agree with spearmaster on this one.
Even though I don’t go to conferences, I know the flights for Yaniv et al cost about 2500 return just to get to london. Not to mention the 24 hour+ flight…March 13, 2008 at 11:08 pm #763203StarBucksSportsMemberRenee;156406 wrote:Not to mention the 24 hour+ flight…Those flights are the worst!:suicide:
March 13, 2008 at 11:10 pm #763204AnonymousInactiveTrue, but they are so worth it once you get there
March 13, 2008 at 11:16 pm #763205StarBucksSportsMemberAnd how!
It’s great to catch up with old friends, put some faces to names, learn things from the some of the more seasoned vets, and the parties aren’t that bad either
March 15, 2008 at 9:54 am #763312AnonymousInactiveI skipped a couple pages in the middle so if I missed it .. whooops..
