This is a bit of a misnomer…
If you have any criminal activity which you’re under investigation for or are charged with, then yes, you will not receive your passport. Typically, unpaid student loans and unpaid taxes won’t fall into this category.
On the other hand, if you owe extensive back child support or are under the microscope for tax evasion, both instances are criminal…so no, you will have zero hope of getting a passport.
I only know this because I was a bit panicked several years ago when I was applying for my passport. At the time, I was going through a dispute regarding my student loans, in which the IRS was brought in (since, resolved!). There was nothing that rose to criminal and I’ve been a happy traveler ever since. :woohoo:
February 1, 2007 at 11:23 pm #725369AnonymousInactiveExactly as Greedy said, if your not paying your child support why should they give you the ticket to bust out of the states, I won’t even get into my thoughts on the dudes that don’t take care of their kids…lol
They can really get you on the student loans but I think what they do on that end is withhold all your potential refunds until it is all paid off. Never heard of not getting a passport for unpaid taxes, man unless that is like in the hundreds of thous owed they yah I am sure your not going to get a passport…lol
Hey see you all there in the spring:highflyer
February 2, 2007 at 7:26 pm #725550AnonymousInactiveI noticed in the newsletter today it said CAP Spring Break is from June 8-11.
Is this all confirmed now?
February 2, 2007 at 7:33 pm #725554vladcizsolMemberYes its confirmed. I spoke to organizers yesterday and we are just hashing out final location (Atlantis or Windham Crystal Palace). We should have full details up next week at the CAP Spring Break site, and of course we will announce it too.

February 4, 2007 at 2:22 pm #725780AnonymousInactiveI was checking the reviews of the Wyndam on Tripadvisor – seems very poor, mostly rated 1 out of five. Bed bugs???
“I went to the hotel as part of a party for my sister’s 30th birthday. We got 8 rooms and booked all out travel through my sister’s travel department at her company.
we got a rate of $160.00 per night plus a lot of extras that were added to the bill for just being there! A maid fee?
When we got to the hotel there was no bellman to help any of us with our bags. We drag our stuff to the front desk and our rooms are not ready and they only have 6 of the 8 rooms we booked in the computer and they want more money because they say we did not have a reservation. We asked them if anyone would fly here and take a chance they could get a room? We finally got our rooms at the rate we reserved after much arm twisting.
The front desk got a bellman to help us with our bags. We all went up to our rooms and as you walk through the hotel you notice that it’s very dated and that things need repair. There is also a very musty smell.
Getting into my room I immediately noticed that the bed was not made and someone was in the room in the bathroom. I backed out as a guy came towards us and the bellman apologized for the mistake. The guy in the room was upset. We got the others into their rooms and left my baggage with my friends as we went back to the front desk. I was told I would have to wait an hour for a free room but they would upgrade me to ocean view. I went upstairs and waited and called on the hour and they said they still did not have a room. It took 2 hours until they called me.
Bellman comes to my friend’s room with the key and we walk down the hall near the corner. The room is the same but with a much better view. Everything in the room is dated and there was a leak in the ceiling near the terrace. The bathroom was not clean and there were only hand towels and one bath towel. The bellman saw the leak and said “The hotel has been having financial troubles and things don’t get fixed.” I gave him $10.00 and asked if he could get me some towels. He picked up the phone and called housekeeping but the towels did not come by time I had to leave.
Supper was crazy. We made reservations a wekk ago, well in advance and the line was nuts. People from outside the hotel were being seated without reservations because they were slipping people money. Some big shot from the casino was just brining people in and they were never on line. We had two drinks each waiting for our tables for a large party. I’m sorry but that’s just wrong. I work in food services and you should have tables for large parties as your #1 priority.
When we were seated it took a long time for anyone to come over. I think that placing the tip on the check for good or BAD service is wrong. There is no incentive for staff to be attentive. When we did order the waiter was acting like he hated his job. The appetizers came after 25 minutes and the hot food was cold. We sent back two dishes and we did not get them until the entree came out. One fish dish smelled so much we sent it back. Never eat fish if it smells bad as you can get very sick. We wanted desert but things took so long that we decided to get the check and go to the casino.
I would never tip someone that much for bad service but they put it on EVERY check. They should do away with that, I’ll bet that service would improve.
We get to the casino and we’re having a great time and I won $300.00. Everything was great until my sister who is a little drunk can’t find her purse. She placed it on the piece next to her slot machine and it was gone. We looked and called a guard and her bag was found later in the garbage in the ladies room with the money gone $120.00 but all the credit cards and ID were there so she was very happy.
We went up at around 1:30 and still no towels. Too tired and too much to drink we just hit the bed and fell out. I woke up at night to use the bathroom and when I turned the light I saw the biggest roach I’ve ever seen in my life. I screamed and we both got shoes and killed it and ran back to the bed. I hate bugs. We hid under the covers up over our heads laughing until we fell back to sleep.
We woke and saw the bug was some huge kind of roach. We went down for breakfast and the meals were OK. Too much grease for me but it was better than supper. Get he fruit salad it’s not bad but it’s warm.
Next we went to the beach and figured we would get some sun. If you sit by the pool remember that the sun goes away at around 1:00PM so get there early. An bring your own towels if you have them in your room because they are hard to get at the beach.
We walked over to the other pool and found the attached hotel to be under constructiont. Very Holiday Inn. You have to move around if you want sun. The chairs at the beach were those plastic ones for $7.00 at K-Mart. Every time you look around people are trying to sell you something. People kept asking us to do our hair and it got pretty bad after the 10th time. They see a lot of girls togeter and they just kept asking.
I’ll stop here and just let you know that we would not go back. The hotel is very old and they are not keeping it up. The beach and pools are not what you want on vacation. The service when you eat is not good. The rooms we had were very dated and not kept well. My room had a leak. The smell of mold is bad in a lot of areas. The bug in my room was huge. The next time we go to the Bahamas, we will stay at another hotel.”
February 4, 2007 at 3:53 pm #725789vladcizsolMemberWell shit. I stayed there years ago and loved it, but that was years ago. I am going over to the Bahamas to tour all the properties on a final inspection before we settle in on one versus another. Owl you can be sure we wont choose a venue that isnt top notch.

Ah it’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it!
February 4, 2007 at 4:09 pm #725792biggygMemberProfessor , I have friends who stayed there last year and they considered it a budget hotel but they were not in the hotel much so it was just a place to crash.Maybe not the ideal place to have meetings ,it seems to have deteriorated over the years. In my newspaper today there is 4 day package flight and that hotel for 500 canadian , atlantis is 887.00 ,that tells me they are not on the same scale
February 4, 2007 at 4:15 pm #725794vladcizsolMemberThere is another issue we are working through regarding the alleged territorial status of Paradise Island. I love Atlantis and I wont shed any tears if we stay there, so lets see what happens.
February 4, 2007 at 4:53 pm #725799biggygMemberIf DOJ shows up , I dont know any of you guys lol . Yeah make sure you check the legal stuff first.
February 4, 2007 at 5:36 pm #725802AnonymousInactiveYou cannot depend all your decisions on that trip advisor…lol An actual inspection seems the thing to do, such a tough job..lol The hotel I stayed at in London had great reviews but let me tell you it was far from great!
February 4, 2007 at 11:37 pm #725831AnonymousInactiveMy vote is for Motel 6!

Shame, but to be expected when something gets influential I guess.
