    How disappointing.

I would like to think that I have worked diligently to earn my nomination.

To find out that the winner is going to be the person who has set up the most social networking sites degrades the award to little more than a popularity contest, which is a shame when you look at the kudos attached to it.

That’s obviously my own opinion, but I was really proud to be nominated as I thought I had been recognised as having done a good job.it would appear though that despite my nomination I don’t really have a chance when I am up against peers who have the time to engineer votes and turn the awards into not so much a recognition of a job well done, but rather a reward for having the most friends on facebook. :(

I am screwed too if it is based on popularity and friends on Facebook -i have one friend on Facebook -Nicole Brooks LOL

I cant tell you how much I agree with you..

Last year I didn’t campaign until about a week before the nominations closed (and I only did this because Martyn was egging me on :wink-wink ). Of course I sent out the reminder in the newsletters to vote, but I thought the same as you.. If I’m the best, I will win without having to “sell myself”. And I did.

The award is for the BEST aff manager, not the most popular, or the person who hadn’t posted all year, but started posting right around the time of nominations just to be noticed to perhaps get a vote.

The harsh reality is though, that in stuff like this people usually just vote for the person who they remember the most… Who puts themselves out there more..

I think ALL us aff managers do a fantastic job whether we are recognised for it or not..

So good luck to everyone… I think we all win in the end.

One thing I’d like to ask about is how are the usernames used in the voting apart from identifying the uniqueness of the vote? Kinda takes away from the whole anonymous thing.

Do you mean – Why make people provide contact details to vote? The reason is simple, basically it allows us to ensure that a) the industry is voting (not players or people’s friends) and b) it stops peopel voting lots of times

Of course it isn’t 100% but it helps :)

Hey Guys, I’d like to encourage you all to see this process in a more positive light.

All award ceremonies are based on popularity to some extent, and affiliate marketing is no exception. If you do an excellent job, people notice; you’ll become popular almost by default. And since all of you do indeed perform your jobs excellently, to really stand out you have to go that extra mile and make connections with people above and beyond your normal job duties. This is the case for any award; heck, that’s what an award is for: to recognize performance that’s above and beyond what is expected of you.

So don’t look at popularity gained by social networking as cheating, or as a popularity contest you can’t win. if you’re an affiliate manager, it really is an area you should be moving into, so you can better serve your clients and customers by being more in-tune with the world of online business.

For those of you who are “social networking shy” — you may want to take some time to get acquainted with how the process works. I guarantee you’ll be surprised at how easy — and fun — it all is.

LinkedIn and Facebook are great places to start, and CAP already has groups set up for each of these sites. Any of you can join the CAP group; once you do, you’ll be able to build up your social networking groups to hundreds of members in just a few days. Chances are, once you join, a lot of acquaintances will seek you out and make that first connection for you. And you’ll also have access to a whole new world of advice, tips, and conversations about the affiliate marketing industry.

Click here to see CAP’s LinkedIn group, and click here to check out CAP’s Facebook group.

We all work in online marketing and, like it or not, social networking represents the future of our industry. Don’t be intimidated by it — think of it as another tool you can use to maximize your effectiveness. This is the Internet after all. It’s built on change. Success comes from seeking out and taking full advantage of new opportunities; comfort with the status quo just doesn’t cut it.

(And, by the way, if you want to see how a truly ambitious CAP Awards self-promotion campaign is done, check out this press release from earlier today.)

    I don’t do social networking and I don’t campaign.

I just try to do a good job helping people at CAP all year and let the chips fall where they may.

Nope.. totally understand why we should provide, and totally agree with that part.. I’m just curious if there is someone there actually looking at the votes saying ‘Oh, I know who Blah voted for’…

Alex please check your pm thanks.

Good luck to all and social networking is the future of marketing online and I suggest if you have not jumped on the bandwagon to do so and if you have hired in staff have them create profiles on these places in your sites names and there you go you have not had to do any of the social networking yourself but your site is being listed out there now :)

correct me if im wrong, but im really curious how the nominated becomes nominated!

Is it who sponsor CAP with most money? Im speaking about the gaming companies.. And i know many other CAP certified brands, why can i choose them on the list when there is like 30 others?

Originally the vote was open to *anyone*, so you could nominate your particulr favourites, or the people and companies that you thought deserved an awards or recognition.

At the cutoff date, these original votes were counted up and the top nominations were allocated into each particular section, which are the nominations that you see now.

So if you see anyone in there that you want to vote for, then dont waste that vote and vote for them! If you dont see anyone you feel deserves your vote, then leave the field blank (or put my name in instead – I’m happy to pick up the excess – especially in the Best Facial Hair catagory! :))

Taken from the last time I posted it (http://casinoaffiliateprograms.com/bb/cap-awards.31214.html?&highlight=cap+awards)

    This years nominations
As Dom mentioned we have had nominations open from April – Sept for anyone to nominate affiliates and programs who they think should deserve an award – This is the same as last year and was sent out to thousands of individuals through, email, newsletters, direct mail, magazines and much more so with regards to people who you feel should be on there either you didn’t nominate them or they wern’t nominated enough but unfortunately it will have to be next year

    The Process
As per the website under “About CAP Awards” the voting isn’t just votes it is also influenced by a panel of some key affiliates, vendors and operators which keeps the final decision balanced and hopefully stops incentivised voting etc. – This is a straight quote from the site

The CAP Awards are decided by two voting bodies. The affiliate nominations come via members of http://www.casinoaffiliateprograms.com and http://www.pokeraffiliateprograms.com and share around 75% of the closing result. The independent judiciary panel is made up of 10 respected operators, affiliates and vendors. These individuals add vital industry insight and expertise as well as ensuring that the nominations are well-placed and the awards operate a clean and non-biased system.

I do want to finish with one thing – We will all never agree 100% because as I say we all approach the awards in different ways BUT when I started these last year my one promise to myself was that I would make sure who ever wins through the vote definitely wins no matter what I or others think – I am 100% honest with these and disagree sometimes with what people thing but the fact is that is what the majority thinks so they are The Winner and we really can’t argue with that!

Also as for who pays teh most wins – Have a look at who won last year and then look at the level of presence those people have in our mags, events, portals, etc and then work out teh balance – I am glad its not who pays the most otherwise on that basis I would be very poor :wink-wink
