The recent CAP London event was the first time that I got the chance to stay in the same hotel as the CAP conference and I can certainly vouch for the benefit to be had from doing this.
The savings in both time and energy were a big bonus.
However, unlike previous conferences where, so long as you have the budget, you could stay at the actual event hotel, CAP Amsterdam is set to be held at the Amsterdam Rai Exhibition Centre (first time a CAP event has been ‘big enough’ to justify this, I believe)
So where will you all be staying?
Hotel Okura – The Official CAP Hotel
5 star luxury but, as always, it comes at a price.Golden Tulip Apollo, Amsterdam
Slighty cheaper that the Okura and an (apparently) nice riverside location
Novotel Amsterdam and Holiday Inn Amsterdam
All that you’d expect from a reasonable hotel, I’m sure you don’t need me to elaborate on these two optionsYou’ll find resonable reviews on all these hotels and others at sites like TripAdvisor
Personally, I quite like the look of the CitizenM Amsterdam City. It’s relatively cheap but as it only opens at the start of April should still be new and relatively un-tarnished. Also has free movies and wi-fi.
They also have another site down the road at Schipol Airport. As you might expect with a cheaper hotel, the reviews for this place on TripAdvisor had some negatives.
If it helps, I’ve created a GoogleMap for these locations HERE which may help you judge the relative merits of each.
It’s by no means exhaustive but should give you a good start :hattip:

If you lok at the Google Map I posted you can see that all of the hotels mentioned are of a pretty similar distance from the Rai Centre, all of them certainly not more than a brief walk.
I guess it just depends on whether you want no-frills or all-in accomodation.

And if you’re unlucky they might still be doing constuction work.. or the wifi works only 50% of the time.. I think it’s tricky with a recently opened hotel.. Same as a new online casino, you first want to make sure everything works properly before promoting it..
But the pictures sure look fun..
I’ll be likely to stay in the hotel with the sponsored open bar..:tongue::tongue:

Alex, is there hotels with conference rates or something?February 19, 2009 at 1:31 pm #795576BetsoftGamingMemberI think I might stayin Germany like last year. the commute was awesome and you really get to know the local taxi drivers…no really you do!
February 19, 2009 at 2:54 pm #795585ZlzmbmaxMemberI believe that they still talk about you, Martyn at the taxi stands of The ‘Dam!
They’ll be competin’ for your fare this time around
February 19, 2009 at 2:59 pm #795587BetsoftGamingMemberI still have the taxi guys number, I used to call him direct and he always stopped in at the petrol station on the way back to buy me a drink!
Those seats were pretty uncomfotable too for a Merc, made my bum sore everytime I went in that car!
February 19, 2009 at 3:42 pm #795589DanmanMemberChecking out the option of hiring a house boat… a few nice ones around and way cheaper than a hotel

Would be hard to hide the pizza guys bike but we can always recreate the scene from the Titanic, only without an iceberg, but you and HodgeyBoy can still do the king of the world thing on the front deck.
Glug glug glug :cappy:
February 19, 2009 at 3:52 pm #795591DanmanMemberI was thinking of sitting on deck fishing in the Amstel, catching a load of prawns and forcefeeding them to Hodgetts – a bit more of a masochistic approach than a Titanic moment really.

I may be wrong, but I think that the beer and the city take their names from the river…
February 19, 2009 at 4:01 pm #795594BetsoftGamingMemberA river?? In Amsterdam?
Apart from the airport and the train station, I thought Amsterdam consisted of the Krasnapolski and the Euro Pub?
February 19, 2009 at 4:03 pm #795595DanmanMemberI may be wrong, but I think the currency and the drinking establishments take their name from the Euro Pub. And I’m sure there’s a country in Eastern Europe named after that hotel.
