News today from iGamingBusiness.com that Canada may soon legalize traditional sportsbetting has significant potential consequences.

In America, for example, only Nevada allows sportsbetting — so, a lot more traffic aross the U.S./Canadian border is expected if this goes through. Not to mention the lost revenue Vegas would experience … potentially a big deal since Vegas has been struggling with a reduced number of travelers. The last thing casinos there would want is yet another reason for gamers to go elsewhere.

Unfortunately the problem here at the border isn’t getting Americans over the border, it’s getting back over. Having lived here for 4.5 years, getting across the border is a 15 minute when it’s not busy, but often, many times a day, that delay hits 30 to 60 minutes. Before 9-11, it was always a non event, now, getting thru fast is rare. So, this is why americans are coming to canada less.

Sports betting is a great idea for canada, given that no state besides NV has legal sports betting, there is a big market that’s already betting on sports ‘illegally’.
