Maybe, it would be a good idea if the Prof put up a list of shame with rogue affiliates who have been found out in order to clean up this industry. A bit like some of the stuff Casinomeister does.
This is a great idea.
But can I ask what does Casinomeister do to hurt anyone?
You could not ask for a nicer person.
But we can’t forget everyone is perfect online.
But I will say this over & over again Dom is the only one I know that knows her stuff over all.And it’s one person you can go to for anytype of help you need.and she will help you all the way.July 22, 2007 at 3:00 pm #743245vladcizsolMemberI was in the Smokey National Forest all day yesterday with Mrs Professor and the kids looking for bears in Cades Cove, we then went to Cherokee and visited the museum and Indian Village, I wasnt online after 8:00 am and didnt see this thread until this morning.
I am shocked and can assure you CAP does NOT appreciate unethical behavior like this and WILL keep this thread stickyed in the Affiliate Warning Area.
Codename I am very disapointed in your actions and I will ask that all certified programs here at CAP freeze your commissions and lock your affiliate accounts until all this is settled.
If CAP or any of our sites has been tartgeted you can count on a MAJOR lawsuit in any jurisidiction that you reside in.

I meant the annual “awards” for most annoying forum member at Casinomeister.com That wouldn’t work for this forum because here you just don’t get that many trolls (sallynigwit or so would surely make the list this year)- But a list to track unethical affiliates may make sense.

PS. Lol, Goldfinger, simultaneous posting!

We need Codename to explain this a lot better.
According to him it seems to be a scraper program of sorts that targets keywords and not specific sites.
Then why did I find G&C indexed in google under his domains?
Codename, you have a chance here to explain things and honesty and a completely forthright explanation will be useful to me and will influence what further steps I take.
July 22, 2007 at 4:50 pm #743260AnonymousInactiveWhat codename did does not seem right to me. Why would he do this if is was not for his benefit. Even if it has no bearing on the SE ranking of the victim’s site it’s NOT cool to see your work somewhere that you did not place it.
I checked out my domain name and I found a lot of sites listed. I’m not clear on which ones are good or bad, but I’m NOT happy with a few of them. There is no link to my site at all on the entire page.
I wish something could be done about folks that would rather “cheat” instead of work hard to get ranking like I have done for the past five years.
I’m going to revist this issue as it relates to my domain at a time when I’m not so busy.
July 22, 2007 at 5:01 pm #743261AnonymousInactiveCodename has not come to defend him/herself because he/she knows there is no defense to this, it is plain stealing. There are several sites targeted and several ticked off owners coming after this person. I still don’t understand how people like this live with themselves, to take others hard work and destroy other sites is just plain wrong and I hope all the programs freeze this jerks account as well!
I am sorry this happened to everyone involved and at the same time I am glad to have learned of this blackhat trick so I can watch out for it.

That’s what I like to see strong and decisive action. If we don’t regulate this within the community then who will?
July 22, 2007 at 7:01 pm #743276AnonymousInactiveI feel codenames actions are totaly unethical and I am happy to be a part of this community and beware of people and issues like that. Dom, thanks for bringing it forth. There is power in numbers in a community, if there is anyway I can help, let me know.
July 22, 2007 at 8:39 pm #743287AnonymousGuestHi again all,
the Prof is spot on.
the sponsors need to address these issues by freezing accounts.
perhaps also a thread be made on sponsors who won’t act on unethical behavior.
in fact.. i beleive that would gain more effect than just pointing out the bh’ers because they are going to just use different names for whois but I assure you …. any program will allow only so many accounts (though I’m one ot talk of that because I have several partners each of whom we have a separate account at same programs but i have written managers and made them aware of why this is done) …
the thing is … any program willing to do the slightest research will find these out for who and what they are…. the money will always go to the same person or persons and if complaints are made against that person for scraping or other unethical actions …….its not too hard to weed out the bad guys.
these programs will gain support from us …. the majority of affs who ARE ethical and thus gain for their time taken to act upon these matters.
July 23, 2007 at 5:57 pm #743349AnonymousInactiveWell, the sites hijacking G&C are down now, most taken down by the owner and I think a couple by google or the host. Google took them out of the index too.
Apparently Bigfish has been affected by this too, how is this going for you, Bigfish?

That page was last updated on August 1st 2006, and originally written on November 17th 2004. This is a looooong time ago. Our websites get hijacked litteraly on hourly basis and by methods not even described in the article.
I would personally check to see if I have not bought run of site text links and/or added a lot of content in a short time.
Actually I think you are wrong on two accounts here. G+C has been around long enough that they could get mass links and or content and it would help them not hurt them. Your reasoning would be great for a new site though.
I’m not saying the ranks dropped because of the scrapers but I know it couldn’t be what you said.

A lot of times you have to be careful of that. For instance, site A is spamming and puts aff banners up. Everyone reports these links. But a lot of times those are innocent affiliates links set as decoys, the juice is simply passed on in other forms (text links or a 301 redirect later in time) to other sites, to other sites, then to the landing page.
So in essence a lot of these spammers also set up a chain of good guys reporting good guys in the process.

That is an excellent point, Kyle, Thank you!
July 24, 2007 at 6:17 pm #743476AnonymousGuestHi Kyle,
I thanked you for your post but not sure i understand. sorry for being stupid.
I think aff programs know who the good guys are … and its not that hard to figure out who is ….. and who isn’t a good guy.
of course I admit ingnorance in many cases. but it seems to me this is a no-brainer.
