Trying to cope with it, already have huge changes to my diet etc but god am I glad I got checked…
Please keep me in your prayers, not sure really what to expect.
September 26, 2007 at 5:58 pm #750020vladcizsolMemberI am assuming you have type 2 diabetes?
Same shit happened to me about three years ago. Its not a huge deal so relax.
What is your blood sugar averaging?
September 26, 2007 at 6:32 pm #750026AnonymousInactiveOn the day i was tested it was 635
Tested yesterday for the 1st time with the damn finger pricker and came back at 118.
September 26, 2007 at 6:48 pm #750029vladcizsolMember635 is not good, but without medication it can easily happen.
118 is fine.
I would assume they are going to give you Actos and either Glucophage or Glucovance. You will also probably get Altace to minimize side effects of the diabetes medicine.
Take you medicine as instructed and monitor your blood sugar and you will be fine.
Its also advisable to cut down on sugars and starchs in your diet. So no chocolate binges, huge bowls of ice cream etc…
You can still eat everything just in moderation. The meds take care of the rest. Diabetes is EXTREMELY common now and its not a serious problem if you catch it and take your medication.
Mrs Professor has Type 2 Diabetes also.
My blood sugar averages between 95 – 120 as long as a I take my medication yours should too.
September 26, 2007 at 6:56 pm #750031AnonymousGuestSorry to hear H:
I think Prof’s advice is good .. as i took care of my grandfather his failing years who also had Diabetes.
that was not his reason for demise… he had bad heart problem
anyway … I did do the blood test stuff on reg basis for him. it is controllable and did not really threaten my grandfather in any way …. other than as Prof said …. you need to follow dr advice and be vigilant about checking.
and get to a dr if it climbs way high and you can’t get it down in reasonable time.
will add you to my prayers.
September 26, 2007 at 7:04 pm #750032AnonymousInactiveIt’s a very common thing today. I had an aunt with Diabetes, she had it all her life and even back then meds helped her lead a normal life until she passed of pneumonia in her old age.
You just need to get into a rhythm.
I hear they have some finger prickers now that you can hardly feel…
September 26, 2007 at 7:08 pm #750034vladcizsolMemberThe finger prickers dont really hurt, but if you are ultra sensitive there are ones that can prick your arms or elsewhere that are almost imperceptable.
I use the finger one and its no big deal.
September 26, 2007 at 7:47 pm #750037AnonymousInactiveIm taking Glucophage now. Biggest change for me is no more beerz
September 26, 2007 at 8:23 pm #750039vladcizsolMemberI still drink beer, wine and liqour. Just dont drown yourself. Glucophage will correct your blood sugar, it wont keep you from destroying your liver with too much alcohol.
Take your medicine and monitor sugar daily you will be fine.
When you are first diagnosed with Diabetes its scary. The natural inclination is to over react and think you are on your death bed or something equally silly. This is a very managable condition and millions of people have type 2 diabetes and go on about business just fine. You will too.
Drink moderately and you will be fine. No damned reason you cant have a beer or three, just dont drain a whole keg on the weekend.
September 26, 2007 at 9:25 pm #750043AnonymousInactiveI’ve had it for about 5 years now. Do what the Professor advises – he’s correct in regard to diabetes!
The two things that I suggest you look out for are your kidneys (mostly stones) and your feet (trim your nails, soak them, spend about $7 a month and get them massaged, etc.).
If you find that the drug is getting too expensive for you, try a herbal product – same effect for alot less money!
Try to keep your blood sugar in the 120 range. The 600+ range is way too high!
Oh, and keep that damn weight in check. If need be, do a colon cleansing and lose around 20 pounds to get you going in the right direction.September 27, 2007 at 1:22 am #750065AnonymousInactiveHolis I am sorry to hear this, I am thinking of you and take all the advise here I have found over the years the people here are very supportive and they give great advise
September 27, 2007 at 6:33 pm #750115AnonymousInactiveHey Hollis,
Sorry to hear of your health problem. My nephew was diagnose with Diabetes and high blood pressure recently and he is doing fine.September 28, 2007 at 8:23 am #750158AnonymousInactiveBefore you start taking diabetes medication I would do some research on the specific drug that was recommended. Some of them are known to increase heart disease risk by over 40%.
September 30, 2007 at 5:09 pm #750335stevejMemberHi Hollis, sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Will send out some good energies your way.
October 1, 2007 at 6:49 pm #750403AnonymousInactiveThank you all for the support, advice and comments.
I appreciate it.
