August 30, 2006 at 4:09 pm #704021AnonymousInactiveUnited States Presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew
hemp, used products made from hemp, and praised the hemp plant in some
of their writings … I won’t comment on what the present president is
rumoured to be taking.
:dozing:
August 30, 2006 at 4:53 pm #704026AnonymousInactiveThe “mandatory” for growing marijuana is seizing the offender’s possessions, ie. car, home, business, etc, and that was what i figured was going on after reading those phone transcripts, he is likely in the process of transferring his possessions over to friends/family(including websites)and keeping them out of the government’s hands
Let’s see now, we’re talking about America here
The pedophile who killed the Ramsey girl gets no jail time and is free to diddle about, so that would mean our webmaster bong buddy is looking at at least 10 years in jail, welcome to the land of Satan
My question is how can you not be high all the time living in the U.S.A.
In a related story, a 21 year old man in Kansas was sentenced to 7.5 years in jail for growing marijuana, so don’t expect Steve to be around anytime soon, especially since he has been denied bail(from what i figure), they take this offense very seriously, more serious than kiddie diddling apparently.
It may not seem like a serious offense, and i certainly don’t consider growing pot a serious offense, but i am not the government, those guys are rediculous
Time to pony up some dough for a good lawyer
As for the drug tax stamp…WTF
August 30, 2006 at 5:00 pm #704027AnonymousInactiveLet me understand this … you grow 1 plant and they can seize your house
car and worldly possessions ?
August 30, 2006 at 5:05 pm #704028AnonymousInactivesorry to hear this steve, i wish there was something we could do to ease your pain. my heart feels for you, that has to be the saddest picture I have seen in a long, long time.

Not “can”, they “do”, it’s mandatory procedure
As for what Steve is going through, it sucks, it really sucks, and i’ve been there, but if he can keep a positive attitude he might just be a better man for it one day
Good Luck Steve
I would be curious to find out where the affiliate programs stand on such an occurence taking place
August 30, 2006 at 5:24 pm #704030AnonymousInactiveThe laws regarding dope there are terribly antiquated. Some freedom when you can’t grow a plant in your own home, like Aleph said.
As we all know, Steve is a great guy who would give the shirt off his back to help others. I know countless people here, on Vancouver Island, who grow the stuff, and I am glad the laws are relaxed here. I think you’d have to turn your house into a huge, electricity-sucking grow op before the police would bother to put down their donuts and investigate.
August 30, 2006 at 5:53 pm #704034AnonymousInactivewell, I have been told of the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act , but according to wikipedia
“In 1969 in Timothy Leary v. US, this act was found to be unconstitutional since it violated the Fifth Amendment, since a person seeking the tax stamp would have to incriminate him/herself.[1] In response the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 was passed.”
But is apears the states thought it was a good idea:
http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=6670In twenty US states, those who possess cannabis or other illegal drugs are legally required to purchase and affix state-issued stamps onto his or her contraband. The total cost of the tax is generally determined by the quantity of contraband possessed. Unlike typical criminal statutes prohibiting the possession and sale of controlled substances, drug tax stamp laws primarily assess financial penalties on the defendant for noncompliance. On occasion, criminal sanctions may also be imposed.
I belive Kansas is the state in question:
http://www.norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=6668#Kansas
http://www.ksrevenue.org/faqs-abcdrugtax.htmPenalty for Nonpayment (Civil and Criminal ) : 100% and interest
An individual is classified as a drug dealer and is liable for the payment of drug taxes if he/she manufactures, produces, ships, transports, or imports into Kansas or possesses:
more than 28 grams of marijuana (processed or marijuana plants)or
1 gram of controlled substance or 10 or more dosage unites of a controlled substance (K.S.A. 79-5201)Looks like lawyer time!
