Hi, one more question about links
Does the anchor text of my link matter? Should it be something with keywords, etc, or is it okay for the anchor text to be just the title of my site (Reviews 4 Casinos) and then use the description to describe the site? Ahh, all this stuff I do not know! Thanks! HeatherJanuary 12, 2005 at 5:37 pm #660048AnonymousInactiveAnchor text is somewhat important. The trick for beginners is to use specific keyword phrases. If you pick something very general, like “casinos,” you’ll never get in the Google top 10 for that word because there are hundreds of higher-PR sites competing for it. Choose longer phrases with specific, relevant words and you should have an easier time getting into the top 10 (for that phrase).
The Overture Keyword Selector Tool is a good place to get keyword phrase ideas.
January 12, 2005 at 6:32 pm #660053AnonymousInactiveAnchor text is the principal means of ranking Google uses, so get linked to by words you want to show up for, and “Reviews 4 Casinos” is very good (or: casino reviews).
Anchor text value disappates though. Obviously if someone hyperlinked 10,000 words that shouldn’t be as valuable as a link with two words. Anything beyond three words is probably a negative. Keep it simple (and accurate).
January 12, 2005 at 7:16 pm #660063AnonymousInactiveI’ve read that getting lots of links with exactly the same anchor text very quickly is a sure way to trigger a Google filter. Do you have an opinion about that Classics?

I believe this to be true SEs looks for natural occurring links
getting 400+ links in a month for a site that gets relatively low traffic
is not a natural occurrence and an easy filter for any SE but I have no idea
how much weight they put behind it.Brad
