One of 2011’s most significant marketing trends has seen Google’s Android OS rocketing past the iPhone in new users in the U.S.

There are a number of reasons for this, and by no means is Apple dead in the water. But for affiliate marketers, the future is clearly with the Android market. Find out why here.

The iPhone was so popular when it came out. Its pretty amazing how the Android has caught up so quickly, wow. Fantastic news for customers though, more competition means better prices and more variety :)

Well, make no mistake, the iPhone is still extremely popular. Apple is selling so many of them, it’s breaking records again and again. For at least three consecutive quarters, almost a full year, the company has broken its own sales records consistently: Apple breaks iPhone sales record again – Computerworld

But Apple is the only company that can make iPhones, whereas Android can be offered by a variety of different phone manufacturers. That means there’s going to be more of them produced, and they’re going to tend to be a bit cheaper, too. So, more of the new phones being sold are on Google’s Android operating system, but there are still plenty of people buying iPhones, too.

Bottom line: People are buying a ton of smartphones! But for mobile marketers, the Android market seems to have the more profitable future.

I have an android phone.. and I have to say – I am happy with it. But I am not 100% on it.
There are some crummy apps, but once you get a good bunch of them – the experience does increase.

I have a HTC desire HD – it chews battery, but thats because it has a big screen.

I sometimes wish I had my blackberry back, because i used the chat feature quite a lot to keep in touch with friends.
