Well it isn’t my site at the moment – just trying to assess the value in light of this… if this is indeed the problem and not just a sandbox issue.
January 3, 2007 at 1:05 pm #720692AnonymousInactivehehe good you investigate well b4 the buy
not sanboxed no, but kind off penalized for sure
January 3, 2007 at 1:08 pm #720693AnonymousInactiveWell if you’re certain, then that is a serious issue… would have to reconsider…
January 4, 2007 at 7:02 am #720821AnonymousInactiveTwo bits of advice.
First, the allinanchor is a definite indicator of where the site will rank once out of the sandbox. If you are seeing an allinanchor of #1 and real rankings at 450, it is buried in the sandbox. The previous post about 450 equalling out of the sandbox is not true. Gambling sites do seem to spend a very long time in the sandbox, we are out for a few less competitive terms, slowly coming out for the medium competitive terms and buried for the very competitive terms. 2 years and counting BTW.
Second, in the case of duplicate content, it’s not the case that the originating site gets credit for the content. Google will assign the owner of the content based on the strength of the sites containing the content. So, if the offending site is stronger, then they would get the credit for it, and your site could potentially have the duplicate pages removed from the index. If the pages in question are cached by Google then you should be fine.
January 4, 2007 at 11:51 am #720843AnonymousInactiveThanks for the advice webber
Well all I can say really is that it is a very very very competetive keyword and it is not ranking AT ALL for it so could be years before we see it?
January 4, 2007 at 7:15 pm #720927AnonymousInactiveIf it is one of the big ones like “online casino” or “online poker” or “online gambling”, you will have a ton of work and years of time to wait before you see results from those. Target longer tail terms and you will do much better in the early going, and if you do it right like “keyword online casino keyword” you will rank for the longest term early on and with enough time and effort begin to show up for “online casino”.
January 4, 2007 at 7:24 pm #720929AnonymousInactiveCheers webber,
It is one of those, a lot of work has already been done, many many backlinks and optimisation. I’m not sure there’s much more I can do if I buy the site except keeping on with getting more links. I guess I’d be competing with teams of seo’ers as well vs just me on my own….
How many years would we be talking if it’s already been 8 months?
January 5, 2007 at 8:09 pm #721123AnonymousInactiveDoes the nature of the industry mean that it may never be possible to work for these very very popular keyphrases again with a relatively new site?
January 5, 2007 at 8:17 pm #721126AnonymousInactivemy 2 cents:
the sandbox will almost never apply as long as 2 years
other reasons can influence the ranking though
January 5, 2007 at 8:28 pm #721128AnonymousInactiveApparently there’s the sandbox and gradually emerging from the sandbox and climbing to your ‘right’ position, does that take an indefinite amount of time? Not there’s such a thing as someone’s rightful position in google but you know what I mean.
January 5, 2007 at 9:13 pm #721133AnonymousInactiveyou will pop out the sandbox suddenly
does not take an indefinite amount of time
supa-max is 2 years(just my 2 cents realy)
January 5, 2007 at 9:27 pm #721134gamesdexMemberWhen does the time period start? When the domain is first indexed?
January 5, 2007 at 9:58 pm #721136AnonymousInactivei think so yes..
but not every new site suffers from the sandbox
google loves playing roulette
January 5, 2007 at 10:34 pm #721141gamesdexMemberInteresting. I recently purchased a domain which has been registered for some years although it was parked. Pretty sure it was indexed so wonder what the effect will be.
January 5, 2007 at 11:00 pm #721144AnonymousInactiveJust noticed that there is now a site ranked higher than it for its own domain name – is that bad? It does link directly with the domain name as link text but I’ve heard this is generally not a good site, the site it links from is well known.
