With the recent events and moderator controversy, we at CAP felt compelled to make this post.
The purpose of this community is to help affiliates in becoming more successful at what they do, and to provide a means of communication for affiliates, affiliate managers, and the entire industry as a whole.
As moderators, you are all very important to this community, and you represent the professional atmosphere that we really try to advocate. As Dominique has said in the past, moderators are the calming influence of the community, and fighting is bad for a public forum. If something needs to be settled, the private forum is here, and private messages are available as well. Alternatively, you can surely get in touch with one another on msn, skype, or whatever, and discuss any issues there.
With that being said, it’s a business forum so we expect our members – and especially our moderators – to behave in an adult like manner.
As for the recent events that have occurred –
Gary – we understand that calling someone a bird may be alright in your region of the world, and we understand that Robin may not have taken it in the manner that had hoped she had, so it is nice to see that you have apologized to her here http://www.casinoaffiliateprograms.com/bb/showthread.php?p=200476#post200476
However, as you mentioned – “when you are questioned you tend to flare.” If you think that Renee questioned you, it does not seem she did so in any sort of demeaning manner, and therefore an apology may be in order there as well. As a businessman, and a moderator of the forum, you are going to be questioned on your knowledge a lot, and the way you answer can only make you a better and more respected figure. You have a lot of information to offer that can benefit the community, and surely you can understand that we want to maintain the professionalism that this community currently has to offer.
Robin – It is quite clear that you were offended with the comments that were made by Gary calling you a “bird” and we can see why you were, but to respond publically with additional name calling does not serve any purpose, and does not solve any problem. You are free to speak your mind, but if you are responding directly to one person and feel that name calling is necessary, than it does not need to be made public on these boards, and can easily be addressed as a private matter.
All moderators – before any post is made, just think “What benefit will come out of this post?”
If you have any questions about when to close a thread, or whether something is inappropriate, that’s what this forum is for. Dominique and Christine have been around for a long time, and they can provide a ton of insight and assist in resolving matters diplomatically. If you are unsure whether or not a thread should be closed, or need a thread deleted, or anything along those lines, please let someone in this forum know. We want to keep an open line of communication amongst us
All in all, the recent events easily could have been avoided had we all taken a moment to step back and think about our actions. We hope that we can remain professional, and not have any more personal attacks, name calling, or anything of the sort.
Remember – “Moderators are mediators of discussion, not censors who take sides in disputes” – Dominique
Quote:to moderate (third-person singular simple present moderates, present participle moderating, simple past and past participle moderated)(transitive) To reduce the excessiveness of (something)
(intransitive) To become less excessive
(transitive) To preside over (something) as a moderator
(intransitive) To act as a moderator; to assist in bringing to compromiseMarch 30, 2009 at 4:09 pm #797827AnonymousInactiveFirst of all I know what a moderators role is and I was contacted by Renee via MSN since NO ONE here that day seemed to care about what was going on or did anything to control Gary’s behavior. Renee was very upset and my first post was appropriate.
Where were YOU or the super mods would have before I had to step in? It all could have been avoided if YOU would have been doing your job while you are trying to dictate rules and how stuff should be ran.
March 30, 2009 at 4:34 pm #797829AnonymousInactiveI come through here every half hour or so between 6 or 7 am and 5 or 6 pm every day as a minumum, including weekends. When threads explode, they can do so within minutes.
I can be reached by messenger, just click my name and send a message, I’ll get it.
