Aha! Now that Google PR is no longer used, the Alexa Chrome Extension is getting more popular. You can install it here: http://www.alexa.com/toolbar.
So, anybody like using it for ad purchasing and link exchanges?
Thanks.
July 27, 2017 at 2:19 pm #838543Pr4LTkzbn7MemberAlexa has some of the most terrible metrics available. It’s easily manipulated data.
How would you even use the extension for ad purchasing?
July 28, 2017 at 3:00 am #838545AnonymousInactiveWell, to get a ballpark ranking of a site’s traffic.
A webmasters can’t manipulate the data at all time, sooner or later other webmaster priorities are going to come up and the Alexa rank will fall. Seems like they Alexa would use the manipulations in their ranking algorithms. Right?

Alexa is, was, and always has been easily manipulable. I could bump up your rankings in Alexa by probably half a million rankings in 1-3 months. However, it wouldn’t result in you getting any more traffic. It would be a fraudulent signal sent by exploiting their terrible traffic tracking. There’s really no point.
Yes, I suppose if one assumes that no one is manipulating their results that using Alexa for general comparisons between sites is OK, but don’t much much faith in the information it gives you with regard to accuracy in the real world.

Then you have to weigh in that you deceived webmasters into thinking your site was more popular than it really was.
The hope is that your site keeps most of its new Alexa ranking, after you are done manipulating.
