I miss starting my day with a cup of coffee & chatting to so many affiliate managers at once I was on a constant buzz of adrenaline ..

    I miss Neteller

    I Miss The Captain …

I miss the trust I had in affiliate programs.

I think that about sums it up and I have to agree with all of those!

2002-2007 IMO were the good old days, least they were for me!

If I could turn back the clock to those days I’d still be living high on the hog instead of living in its slop. Back then I’d guess we likely got shaved 5-15% these days its more like 85-100% and sadly you can’t trust half the people you once could!

Companies who you once sent millions for years will sell you short the second they find themselves in trouble and needing to pinch their own companies pennies. They will lie, cheat, and steal to keep food on their own tables with absolutely no regards for taking it off of yours.

    Anyone got a time machine?

    Hi All,

From the late 90’s and up to about 2005 it was certainly a different business climate, but that would be the same for nearly any business.

I believe the playing field is still the same for all. If you’re thinking of getting into the business and if you’re prepared to work hard, there is a living to be made.

Anyway, I really miss using Adwords and PPC’s in North America and we also miss NETeller!!!

Remember how generous the affiliate programs used to be with gifts at Christmas time not to mention all the competitions they used to have.

A little nostalgia… does any one remember TheMoneyTour (a casino review portal) in the late 90’s? How about Orion Casino, Illustrated Casino, Oscar Casino, Happy Chance, Orbital Casino or Jamaica Bay Casino?

On another note, the CAP gave a seminar on Binary Options about 6 months ago. Could this be the 1998 for Binary Options? If this is, we need affiliates to start educating traders on binary options and forex. Within the last year, we started adding reviews for binary options brokers on our casino website and from there, we launched a website dedicated to binary options at http://www.BinaryOptionsJourney.com.

Love all of these responses & hearing about those “glory days.” I have to admit… the times I miss are from about a decade ago… Just before CAN-SPAM got into full effect and you could still email the hell out of your data and get an insane response- crazy opens & CTR’s. And affiliates were generating $1.50 to $2.00 per email submit on a CPA.

And… although I was never able to attend, I know they were amazing… The CAP Trips. Something’s telling me we need to figure out a way to stir those back up again?!?

I miss all the good Affiliate Managers and people who were there to help.
Many of us are ready to kiss the Gambling market good-bye.

I miss good players depositing big amounts and playing back all winnings most of the time. Nowadays players deposit small amounts, win big and cash out. They win much more than what they ever are going to deposit again …

I had one casino partner for 9 months who, according to their own stats, received more than 7,900 clicks. Sadly, no one signed up or made a deposit. Weeks after I had removed that casino from my site, I got an email asking me to restore them because they “sure miss all that good traffic you sent.” Immediately, I replied. “What was so good about my traffic that resulted in 7900 clicks but ZERO signups? And why would you want more? “

I had been had. Fool me once, shame on You. Fool me twice, shame on ME. Too many rogue casinos these days. People who play are still losing as much as they ever did before. The Rogues are keeping everything for themselves.

There’s got to be a better way.

Thats one scenario, another would be all those winning players arent winning more than they used to, you’re just being shaved more. I know when I play I dont win or lose on avg any more than I ever had.

The last 2-3 years many of us have seen a huge increases in winners – with some programs players will win month after month after month. We ALL love winning and most of us want our players to win too as that keeps them playing, but we all know the edge always goes to the house and winning just doesn’t happen on a consistent basis like that – it just doesnt’!

Reading all these posts are great and the last 2-3 years there has not been a great amount of interaction with managers on the forums. There are the few good ones , Maria,Renee and Martyn but back in the day managers were our friends and it seemed their bosses understood how important it was to keep in touch with the community.
It reminds me of when we were teenagers and moving away to go to school ,we leave some great memories behind and although we have good intentions to stay in touch as time goes on we just drift apart.
As for the free trips for top affiliates ,I think that is just a consequence of the economy and losing certain markets.I have one program who netted about $500,000 last year that send a couple t-shirts and another program who always offers us tickets to visit them in Israel but I genuinely do not expect anything as a business owner with many employees I do understand the back end expenses and how they increase year after year.
I cannot imagine how greater the losses are for affiliates and players in USA and we have all lost from the processor seizures .We just have to keep moving forward and learn to reinvent the wheel.Rak and Christine plotting together that is scary idea lol

I honestly don’t know where to start answering this question. I feel like I could write an essay about what I miss lol I miss so many things about the good old days, they used to be so sweet! I miss the pre-panda and pre-penguin days, when it was so easy to rank in Google! I miss the USA market not being restricted, and getting new players was not a problem. It sucks that casino coins was forced to leave the market, they were easily the best affiliate program of all time!!! After black Friday, this industry went downhill big time. A lot of dodgy and rogue affiliate programs started to get more exposure by affiliates, simply because there weren’t that many USA affiliate programs left. I don’t like the new social media component that we have to focus on now, and the fact that Zynga is waiting for online gambling to be legalized so they can start competing with affiliates.

I’ll always remember and miss the good old days, and I will approach the future with the same enthusiasm that I had back then. Even though things are a bit harder now, the industry is far from dead :)

I miss the days visiting CAP was a “must” every day, otherwise you couldn’t follow the soap, and CAP didn’t need mods to start discussions and had to write “woulde be” articles

I also miss people being friendlier and helping each other out. Things have become so competitive that no one gives away any secret sauce.

Good thread, nice to see some old timers still active at CAP.

Back in the days spending the first 30 minutes at CAP was like a routine. And you had to use this just to check out what’s happening. You come back later to post. Multi tasking on 5-6 IMs with affiliates used to be fun. There wasn’t a single dull day from 2002-2006 and then things really started changing. :)

We use to have a blast with affiliates as well as affiliate managers at the CAP Spring break and earlier versions of CAC. Miss all that!!!!

It seems affiliates have lost their spunk. It’s all doom and gloom, and even events that are positive get negative press these days because affiliates seem to have gotten mired in a rut of negativity.

In the old days, if a program screwed us in any way, we’d band together and wouldn’t let up until things were corrected.

When that happens today, you find a few comments about the program being a thief and doesn’t that show again how rotten things are, and that’s it.

No one cares to fix things anymore. People have apparently resigned themselves to being powerless.

The comeradery is missing. The cohesiveness in getting something fixed is missing.

I am not surprised the programs don’t show up anymore – when something bad happens , there are no people reaching out to discuss and fix, all there is are insults and voices of resignation.

The old CAP spring breaks were great ways to get to know one another and to form bonds with each other and also aff managers. There was plenty of time for individual get – togethers and on that basis it was a lot easier to be cohesive and to have aff managers who would stand up for us when the owners wanted to change things in a bad way.

All this is lost. I quit going to conferences alltogether, why fly all over the world and spend hours and hours in planes just to go to dinner with a group of 30 or party in a club? There is no professional advantage to it any more, it doesn’t really serve the cause of affiliates. It’s just a meat market for managers to recruit new affs. Feed affs for an evening, or let them get drunk one eve, and come home with a bunch of new affs and better name recognition. That’s the whole purpose of these things now. The only attraction for me anymore is to meet up with old friends…

A lot of us old timers have withdrawn from message boards and conferences. Who needs all that negativity? CAP is doing a nice job calling out rogue programs these days, and also by providing a lot of interesting info about SEO and the like. But I sure miss the cohesiveness and positive efforts put out by the community itself.

There is a little voice in the back of my head that says:”oh yeah, you don’t like it? Fix it!”

But I don’t know how unless we all pull together again and do something about things.

So, I miss the spunk and cohesiveness in the community as a whole. I miss the resolve we used to have to get things fixed. And we sure did get things fixed. Today, some of the T&Cs programs come up with are just ridiculous. But they get away with it, no one cares anymore. And so I see the gambling affiliate niche going to hell in a hand basket.

It’s not just UIGEA and domain and bank seizures, it’s the apathy of the community too.

It’s never too late to turn things around, but without a strong sense of togetherness and cooperation it won’t work.

Did I mention I miss not working all summer!! I agree with Dom it is like a losing battle now days but I try to keep on going at it, try to get affiliates to ban together but as she said most just can’t be bothered anymore. I know some are just as busy as I am trying to scramble to stay ahead of the game, put in the Google slam most took I am sure most affiliates are head down right now trying to climb back in the rankings.

Affiliate managers have changed as well most cannot be bothered to mail affiliates, send out promos I am surprised they can even make good business with the new work standards that seems to be happening as of late. If you cannot bother to talk to me, I will not chase you down!

Dom there is a big conference in Vegas this Oct would be nice to see you there!!!
