So why did I want this?
Because I liked the old private section a lot – for instance I don’t like publishing my stats but will do so here in private if we need to compare performance of a program.
I also thought that some of you may have questions about CAP and what happened here that you don’t want to ask in public where we may get flames and such going, but it’s safe to ask in here.
Mostly what I miss about here is the supportive attitude that was here, none of all the bickering at each other. Just friends and colleagues comparing notes.
I hope we can all get back together…
Just a reminder – what is said here, stays here.

This is area51 Mr. Grump:
Area 51 – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
And this is not the only forum having one, digital point has one and I bet a bunch of others. Just thought it was a fun name for it, instead of “private forum” or whatever.
Discussion leaders – we don’t have them yet but I am told the idea is to have people who know a lot about a topic kind of “adopt” a forum and keep good info flowing there… helping out when questions are asked.
” let alone” is an idiom. Like of someone asked me now to come see them in San Francisco, I could say: I’m not getting into my car to go to the supermarket now, let alone fly to San Francisco”.

January 7, 2010 at 4:01 am #807138AnonymousInactiveThanks Dom…
Yeah I hate bickering, conflict, etc. Stresses me out.
January 7, 2010 at 11:30 am #807159AnonymousInactiveCertainly there is space in the affiliate world for a PCAP or PGPWA forum where the lead P actually stands for Professional Peers.
In this case professional probably means the affiliates are full-time, focused on the niche, with a company corporate structure (and asssociate tax/business issues), earning at least a six-figure profit.
It’s not that I don’t want to participate in other discussions with affiliates up and down the food chain, that can be interesting and useful, but sometimes the level of whining, bickering and plan stupid posting can drive me up the wall !!
:roflmao:95% percent of the threads on the affiliate forums these days are either :
– ego driven bickering about past grievences and wrong-doings
– small affiliates complaining that all things are not equal out there (quotas ot higher rates)
– or inane chat and happy birthdays
:flush:As it stands right now there is not a place that you could say provides useful information and peer-group mentoring for affiliate past their initial first 6-12 month steps.
Some of that might be understandable (from the CAP / GPWA point of view) in that the owners of the forums appear to be targetting a drive for massed headline numbers of participants in a goal that seems to be to say simply that they’re the biggest ???
Perhaps that drive towards quantity enables them to attract more programs, bigger fees, or a larger ego stroke … but whatever the reason … the leaping for quantity has certainly removed a lot of the useful QUALITY for the exisiting forums IMO.
IF Area51 is going to be a place that we can share valuable information in a professional setting then more power to it !
:hattip:January 7, 2010 at 2:00 pm #807165AnonymousInactiveThat’s exactly what I had in mind, Gooner.
And you summed it up perfectly.
I didn’t exactly use the criteria you suggested, but just picked people I have seen making valuable contributions and input over time. People I trust. People I respect. And I made no distinctions based on what forum anyone prefers, there are GPWA based people, Casinomeister based people, AGD based people and CAP based people here. I looked at professionalism and not politics. I hope we can leave those outside the door. I put the area51 right on top, so those who don’t want to look at CAP won’t have to. Everyone’s preferences are respected here.
I think everyone here will appreciate an environment free of politics and attacks and a free exchange of opinions on what is going on in the industry on a business level.
Newcomers are important to the industry, and they do need a place to learn and discuss and vent, but it’s sometimes difficult to keep a straight conversation going with all of that.
I am sure many of us will share some advice in the general forums, whichever forums we prefer for whatever reasons. I know I will.
By default we ended up with people I picked, but suggestions for additions are welcome from anyone, and we can decide further admissions as a community.
After two weeks I will have all invitees who didn’t show up deleted.
Just please, this is a private place and no copying and pasting of threads, everything we say here must stay here so that we can all feel comfortable being honest and blunt and forget politics. If anyone leaks conversations from here, they will be locked out.
January 7, 2010 at 3:20 pm #807169AnonymousInactivewell said gooner.

January 8, 2010 at 9:23 pm #807240biggygMemberI am here and nice to see all of you.I look forwarding to seeing some of you in London at the end of the month.Paul is right ,if I wanted to read random babbling and gossip i would just spend my time on social networks and tabloid sites.
I assume no affiliate managers will be invited :roflmao:January 12, 2010 at 7:43 am #807330AnonymousInactiveLove the idea and look forward to contributing more to CAP generally and will participate in Area51 stuff as and when… agree that no affiliate managers might be best considering the sort of content/info that might appear (particularly stats from competitors).
Cheers,
GenoJanuary 12, 2010 at 1:41 pm #807344AnonymousInactiveDefinitely no AMs. Just us.
January 12, 2010 at 6:57 pm #807356AnonymousInactiveI think this is a good move and thanks for the invite. I’ve been very lazy as regards posting on CAP for quite some time but I hope to change that now.
