If you were to remove the element of chance from online poker, would it then qualify as a legal game? That’s the basis of a new project from Carlyle Gaming and Entertainment Limited, which is about to launch a new Texas Hold’em-based poker game that removes the element of chance to offer “a purely skill-based, and therefore legal, version of a universally popular game.”

Branded PokerTwin the new game has been designed such that the troublesome ‘luck of the draw’ element is entirely eliminated, leaving players to compete on skill alone. Carlyle achieves this by placing players in corresponding seats at two different tables. Identical hands of poker are then dealt to each, establishing, the company says, that the result is based on skill.
Carlyle intends to launch PokerTwin to US players online in the third quarter 2008 at pokertwin.com and a play for fun site at pokertwin.net.
CG&E has other gambling projects in train which include a new concept in electronic poker, and an Italian online poker network about which there are few details on the company’s website at Carlyle Gaming.com.
The company, which trades as an OTC stock in a range between 8 cents and 80 cents (more usually around 20 cents) claims its staff combine the talents of experienced casino operators with over 35 years experience in the industry with software and hardware developers “that have pioneered the online poker and casino revolution over the past decade.” Unfortunately there are no details or background on these employees, or the management.
