is 180 search not spyware ? what do you think ? i would like to know more ?
April 11, 2005 at 3:24 am #663963AnonymousInactive180 solutions is adware and if you install it you’ll get more than you bargain for. Try to uninstall it after and you’ll have a headache to match. You’ll have more than 20 programs that need to be uninstalled.
April 11, 2005 at 1:21 pm #663973AnonymousInactive180 search = metrics direct = spyware = thiefware
Installs unwanted elements on users computer but not illegally, steals from your peers and the programs you work for – or your affs if you run a program.
If you are wondering about effectiveness of buying ads there – not good. You’d think they would perform but they don’t. Wrong audience for gambling – demographics way too young.
April 11, 2005 at 2:22 pm #663975AnonymousInactivehalf here youe it ?
April 11, 2005 at 2:36 pm #663976AnonymousInactiveI investigated it, yes. Gave it a chance to work.
The results were lousy, so it is definitely not worth antagonizing people or annoying users for.
Maybe it works better in other industries.
April 13, 2005 at 7:17 pm #664101AnonymousInactiveI’ve tried Metrics with some of my dating sites and managed to make 15 bucks back with 150 $ deposited. Tried to keep the sites and triggers as focused as possible but no result. My bad, probably.
Anyways, now I tried advertising my first baby-gambling-related-page and have received over 600 unique visitors daily from there but that’s about it – my logs say that those visits last mostly under 5 seconds.
:dontget:April 13, 2005 at 7:30 pm #664104AnonymousInactiveWelcome to CAP, vanapeer.
That’s terrible results. Try reading our PPC section for some better tips.
April 13, 2005 at 8:00 pm #664105AnonymousInactiveThanks, Dominique – it’s educating and refreshing to be here!
:clapper:April 13, 2005 at 8:49 pm #664107AnonymousGuestHi,
I tried 180 when they first came out and prices were extremely cheap.
…. You get what you pay for, or worse.
Sounds like we have had similar results but I imagine you paid much more than I did as I heard their prices had skyrocketed since I first tried them.
I’ve heard that the prophet uses them extensively.
Someone asked me how he and casinos could afford to pay for such shitty traffic and I said that he has reached a point where he can afford to speculate.
I cannot; at least not to any extent.
Its getting pretty tough to find decent paid advertising.
April 16, 2005 at 1:19 pm #664242AnonymousInactiveNow let me make sure Im reading this right….

So let me make sure I understand this. Dominique (Supposed big time scumware opponent) gave 180 solutions a “chance to work”??
Now Annette – Im not trying to start crap or flame you but im not too sure I read that right and want to clarify. You – who knows that 180 literally STEALS from fellow affiliates gave it a “chance to work”??
Is that correct??
April 16, 2005 at 1:56 pm #664243AnonymousInactiveActually, I have checked out almost all the spyware programs over the last two years or so.
I both install them in my computer as well as buy some ads and I watch what happens.
That way I know who uses them, who is being targeted by whom, how much money they must be spending and what their ROI must be.
I have been largely aware of which affiliates use which thiefware for years. I am aware who uses it to carry out personal vendettas against certain programs. I don’t talk about it much any more – trying to fight it is impossible. Too many affiliates have a personal interest in it.
The good news is that ROI gets lousier and lousier. I think that the golden days for this type of theft are gone.
Not that this will end theft…. people will always find a way to steal from other affiliates.
April 16, 2005 at 2:06 pm #664244AnonymousInactiveOk – fair enough. I suppose I dont want to debate the whole topic with you here. Perhaps when we see each other again. I just dont understand why you personally would need to know what the ROI is for scumware…
I had always thought it somewhat admirable that you were willing to install this crap on your machine in order to conduct your research but I cannot understand you using it for your own advertising purposes…..
who is being targeted by whom, how much money they must be spending and what their ROI must be.
That is impossible to tell unless your running the same advertising across those eyeballs to tell what someone elses ROI is and you know that. Every website performs differently. :eh:
April 16, 2005 at 2:33 pm #664245AnonymousInactiveMany don’t use their websites because they don’t want to be caught, they send traffic directly to the casino of their choice. The exceptions to that are
just a few well known people who don’t care about the affiliate community and what people think. My own advertising purposes – for me it has been pretty much a waste of money as far as that is concerned. A tax deduction. It is money I invested in understanding more about the industry I am working in.
Integrating the info I gather with Ben Edelman’s research gives me a nice, in depth knowledge of the matter, and a way to make projections for the future.
And thankfully, in this industry, the future of thiefware is glum.
Other forms of contextual advertising have been good to me though. Most PPCs offer a contextual solution now also, and I have found these to be better.
Also, I buy space on other gambling websites whenever I can – that too is contextual advertising and it has been good to me.
One doesn’t have to steal to take advantage of contextual advertising.
April 16, 2005 at 2:50 pm #664247AnonymousInactiveThanks for your reply.
For those who do not know who Ben Edelman is

Good stuff.
April 26, 2005 at 5:47 pm #664740AnonymousInactiveTheir audience:
Installation at Sites Targeted at Children
180’s Zango software is promoted at Ezone.com, a site that describes itself as offering “free, fun, family games.” Ezone’s Privacy Statement specifically claims that Ezone “meets the guidelines of TRUSTe’s Children’s program” — indicating Ezone’s intention to cater to children. Beyond offering games, Ezone’s site includes overstated cartoon characters, simple language, and straightforward designs that are particularly likely to appeal to children.
Ezone is but one of many 180solutions partners targeted at children. 180’s Backstage Network press release mentions other sites seemingly targeted at children and youth. 180 partner sites offer cartoons (JibJab and Media Pickle), games (3DJoe, All Games Free, BoneLand, Kings of Chaos, and Newgrounds), popular music (Sir Mix-A-Lot), and even “sound effects for prank phone call needs” (Goonland).
Some adults may also be interested in some of the 180 Backstage sites. But in my experience, the majority of these sites are more likely to be of interest to children than to adults.
