The largest poker tournament in the world, the World Series of Poker $10,000 No Limit Hold ’em Main Event, has consistently paid out the largest prizes to the largest fields in poker.
This year, thousands will compete for the most acclaimed prize – a Main Event bracelet. Across three days, three rooms of 3,000 players will be whittled down. Over the next two weeks, a final table will be decided.
This has been the big change in the poker calendar – the final table will now play out in November, months after the tenth place finisher has been sent to the rail.
Players are divided on this issue, with some citing it as a big change for televised poker; some saying it’s ‘the worst thing to happen to poker ever.’
Nevertheless, the $10,000 Main Event will always be special – last year’s champion, Jerry Yang, won $8m for his first-place finish after defeating a field of over six thousand.
