June 30, 2010 (CAP News Wire) – One of the world’s leading online sports betting companies, Austrian-based bwin Interactive Entertainment AG, has reported that its customers have so far doubled since the World Cup began on June 11.
The company “registered twice the number of customers after the World Cup’s preliminary round measured against the strongest betting month,” bwin reported in a news release. “As a result the betting revenue has been pushed up,” the statement adds.
“If the favourites lose or tie, bookmakers stand to benefit. There were quite a few of those during the World Cup preliminaries,” explains Katharina Riedl, corporate spokesperson of bwin. “We were able to generate lots of new customers and reactivate existing customers by doubling our betting line-up compared to the World Cup in 2006.”
“The amplified betting line-up for the 2010 World Cup and the new services, including the option to select a favourite team, have gone down really well with bwin customers,” explains Stefan Wukovitsch, Product Manager Betting at bwin. “But the unexpected results in the World Cup so far have also made the placement of live bets while the games are ongoing much more exciting for our customers.”
With more than 20 million registered customers in more than 25 markets, bwin is easily one of the biggest names in online sports betting, and any positive news for this company can be seen as a boost for the industry as a whole.
