March 4, 2011 (CAP PR Wire) – Online poker player ODESSA99 from New York has over 340,000 reasons to be thankful for his losing hand at UB.com, which immediately set off a new UB record-high Bad Beat Jackpot (“BBJ”) to the staggering tune of $1,048,383.80.
On Monday, February 28th at 22:51 EST, ODESSA99’s quad Queens were cracked by FARFLUNG’s four Kings. That could have been the end of the story, but at UB, this bad beat delivered a welcome boost to ODESSA99’s bank balance, netting the 37 year-old a $340,875.15 lion’s share of the Bad Jackpot cash, and that’s well worth crowing about.
“I actually dreamt a few days before that I lost with queens, so it really is a dream come true! I just want to thank UB. Without this site and its Bad Beat Jackpot, I would not have had this opportunity, and I will be using my money wisely to help my family out, save for my young son’s college education, and put him through private school,” said the full-time poker player, ODESSA99.
There were nine players at the table where the BBJ eventually hit. ODESSA99 posted the small blind, with ROOSTER XXX on the big blind. FARFLUNG called, 6 others folded, ODESSA99 raised $0.75 to $1, with ROOSTER XXX and FARFLUNG calling. The Flop showed Kd-Jc-Qh, ODESSA99 bet $0.50, ROOSTER XXX folded, FARFLUNG raised, ODESSA99 re-raised and FARFLUNG called.
With just the two of them left in the hunt, the Turn delivered the Qd, ODESSA99 checked, FARFLUNG bet, ODESSA99 raised, FARFLUNG called. The Ks completed the board, with ODESSA99 and FARFLUNG jostling for position in a final round of betting, until the showdown revealed FARFLUNG holding Kh-Kc for four of a kind. ODESSA99’s Qs-Qc may not have been strong enough to win the pot, but it was ‘mega’ enough to steal him UB’s biggest ever Bad Beat Jackpot prize.
When ODESSA99 lost his hand of Texas Hold ’em at a $0.50/$1 table, FARFLUNG also picked up a pretty sum of $170,813.62 for his winning hand, while 7 players banked $1,150.42 just for being seated at their table, and an additional 1075 others celebrated ODESSA99’s bad luck at the table pocketing a minimum of $150.42 each, for no other reason than they happened to be playing at the same limit and game type as the full-time poker player.
In 2011 to date, 14 players have won a Bad Beat Jackpot, and ODESSA99’s win lifts this year’s BBJ prize money to just shy of $2 Million ($1,998,389.57) handed out across the CEREUS Poker Network to 2,492 players. Since the launch of the Bad Beat Jackpot at Absolute Poker and UB, thousands of players have shared in a staggering total of $61,774,438.56 in jackpot cash.
Bad Beat Jackpot games are traditional Texas Hold’em poker with an added jackpot component. $0.50 is collected from qualifying poker hands and placed into a constantly growing pot until someone hits the jackpot. When an online poker player loses a hand with four 8s or anything better, the jackpot is divided among Bad Beat Jackpot players, including those seated at a Bad Beat Jackpot table featuring the same limit and game type as where the bad beat occurred.
Sky-high Bad Beat Jackpots aren’t uncommon at either of the CEREUS Poker Network’s online poker sites — players at UB and Absolute Poker have both witnessed a number of monster jackpots near the million-dollar mark. After the February 28th BBJ was popped, the jackpot was automatically reseeded, and it currently stands at $299,732.95 (at 16:16 EST today).
