#6 Footer Links
One of the unexpected side effects of Google’s link-slaughtering Penguin update hit SEOs right in the foot(er).
The brainy algorithm looked at those promotional links at the bottom of WordPress templates and immediately pronounced them as unrelated. This turn of events left webmasters and template designers scrambling to remove the offending links before they did too much damage.
If you’re looking at templates, or just cleaning house, don’t forget to sweep under the footer and use those links sparingly in the future.
