#7 – Europe Stays Tough
Speaking of our neighbors across the pond, we’re thinking that they’ll continue making life challenging for online gambling interests. In 2012, the German government fought hard to protect its gaming monopoly, and associated revenue, and they were hardly the only EU government to do so. (Though Schleswig-Holstein gave a good shot at leveling the playing playing field, those efforts were shot down before 2012 ran out.)
Despite the EU’s high minded talk of competitive trade, these governments just aren’t interested in competing with private companies for your gaming dollar (or Euro).
Don’t be surprised to see plenty of stories in 2013 about European governments that are dragged kicking and screaming into the competitive marketplace.
