In 2003, a previously unknown accountant and poker player named Chris Moneymaker forever altered the world of professional poker by winning the World Series of Poker (WSOP) at Binion’s Gambling. Moneymaker’s incredible run began with a $40 buy in to an online tournament at Poker Stars.
After Moneymaker took home the $2.5 million WSOP purse, amateur poker players across the country flocked to poker sites in hopes of repeated the humble accountant’s feat. Moneymaker continues to play as a member of the Team Pokers Stars Pro group.
