2011
In 2011 no single story impacted the online poker world like events of April 15, or Black Friday. That’s the day the U.S. Justice Department basically shut down online poker in the United States and seized domains from major industry players, including Poker Stars. The DOJ returned Poker Stars domain a few days later after company officials agreed to reimburse player accounts and bar American players.
Though Poker Stars has continued serving players from around the world, the loss of the American market shrank traffic to the site by 26 percent. But as Poker Stars nears its tenth anniversary next month, the future seems to look bright. The company will be celebrating the milestone anniversary with a series of tournaments and contests, including a $10 million giveaway on December 18.
