First Online Poker Crossover
Ok, maybe Chris Moneymaker wasn’t the first online poker player to crossover to land-based play, but in 2003 he became the first one to win the main event at the World Series of Poker.
The Tennessee-born accountant rose through the ranks to a seat at the main table on a simple, $39 buy-in. When he walked away with the bracelet, the poker would never be the same again.
Moneymaker’s incredible story is the stuff of legend and, unquestionably, launched the Texas Hold ‘Em boom. As the first player to step out of cyberspace to contend on the big stage, Moneymaker is a big part of poker history.
