First Country to Legalize Online Gambling
Free trade and the global economy are terms that get thrown a lot these days but back in 1994, the concept of doing business with a worldwide customer base was still pretty radical stuff.
In tiny Antigua and Barbuda, however, forward thinking lawmakers saw how the Internet, and Internet gambling, had leveled the economic playing field. They created a free trade zone under the Free Trade & Processing Act that licensed and regulated online gambling.
Practically overnight, these Caribbean islands become the center of the worldwide online gambling business. Though plenty of other countries followed suit, these island paradises have the distinction of being the first countries to legalize online gambling.
