Former MGM Resorts and Resorts World CEO Scott Sibella won’t be working in the gaming industry anytime soon. The Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) recently revoked Sibella’s gaming license after Sibella was accused of violating anti-money laundering regulations and allowing known illegal bookmakers to gamble huge amounts in his casinos.
As part of a settlement reached with the NGCB, Sibella has been placed on the list of denials, revocations and findings of unsuitability. This means that Sibella is banned from holding a Nevada gaming license for five years. Sibella can re-apply in 2029 and the NGCB has recommended that his cooperation in this current case be noted should he re-apply.
As part of his settlement with the NGCB, Sibella did not fight any of the 12 counts leveled against him by the NGCB. The NGCB has backdated Sibella’s ban to 2023, so he will be eligible to re-apply to work in Nevada gaming again in 2029.
For its part, Resorts World has moved to put its troubled-making CEO in the past and recently named Alex Dixon as its Chief Executive Officer. Dixon commented on the casino’s future in a recent press release saying, “We have a bright future ahead of us, and I look forward to supporting and collaborating with Resorts World Las Vegas’ leadership alongside the Board to continue showcasing the best the Strip has to offer. We have an incredible team of talented and committed employees throughout the organization and are confident we can achieve amazing things together.”
Sibella’s ban will become official during the next NGCB meeting on December 19.
