May 24, 2010 (CAP News Wire) – In Europe, the Internet gambling trade is estimated to be worth 1.5 billions euros. And with many European countries promoting relatively easy (if often legally contested) freedom to do business across borders, it’s no surprise to learn about new groups wanting access to that revenue pool.
To that effect, last week, seven independent bookmakers in Ireland teamed up to form a new online betting group that would compete with the big brand chain operators for a slice of that revenue share.
The new group, BetPack.com, claims its motives are to protect the jobs of the estimated 500 employees in betting shops it’s associated with. Spokesman Jimmy Finlay added that this is “one of the biggest ever developments in Irish bookmaking,” according to the UK Press Association.
