Massive Soccer Match Fixing
In February Interpol exposed a massive betting scandal that could, eventually, send shockwaves to the highest levels of the soccer world.
Spearheaded by a shadowy Singaporean, who is still at large, the ring conspired to fix as many as 700 matches (and those are just the ones we know about).
What we do know is that the group was very efficient and very effective. It’s believe they dropped about $3 million on bribes while earning around $11 million in profits – not too shabby. Not only that, they also embraced the spirit of the global economy by spreading those bribes across the UK, Eastern and Central Europe.
It just goes to show that while regulated betting markets aren’t immune to these sorts of scandals, they do eventually expose them.
