The Ongame Network has been tapped to provide play-money online poker to the influential Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. Published reports suggest that the new site (www.mohegansun.com) could launch in the first part of 2013.
Mohegan’s deal with the Amaya-owned Ongame Poker Network is just the first salvo in what could be a major online poker arms race on the East Coast. It’s the first deal of its kind, for Eastern casinos, but is not likely to be the last.
The spread of legal online poker has mainly been confined to western states, with Nevada leading the charge, but expect to see a lot more action east of the Mississippi in the months ahead.
In a press release, Ongame’s Managing Director Peter Bertillson said:
It is exciting to be part of the move online for one of the most dynamic and expansive casino operators in the United States…and it will be very exciting to be a partner in their online gaming operations as this becomes an important part of their future business strategy.
There’s no word yet on what, if any, impact a Federal online poker bill would have on this deal.
