February 20, 2009 (InfoPowa News) — The police in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo have revealed that a sophisticated investigation is underway in an attempt to identify and catch the top bosses organizing illegal online gambling operations in the region.
Police Chief ACP Ahmad Sofi Zakaria told reporters that gambling chiefs operate "behind curtains" and are "cunning and invisible."
"We have to have proper and well organized planning to apprehend the main players,” the police chief said, revealing that the investigation was focused on identifying the chiefs behind illegal gambling, which has been the target of increased police raiding activity in recent months.
Zakaria made the comments following the latest raids, in which police acting on a tip-off hit a venue in Inanam, confiscating 12 computer sets and other equipment worth some RM36,000 and RM130 cash.
The raid was the latest in a series in which police have seized hundreds of computers and made arrests of those found on the many premises that have been targeted.
The police chief said that he believed the police activity has reduced illegal online and land gaming activities. “We will conduct these raids from time to time and hope the public will give close cooperation to police to combat the crime,” he added.
