Ignition Casino has purchased Bovada Poker in a surprise deal that stunned the online gambling world.
Details of the deal are still scarce, but here’s what’s known as of this writing.
Bovada, one of world’s best known online gambling brands, is only selling its Bovada Poker division to Ignition. The company’s sports book and casino will remain with the parent company.
The impact on players should be minimal, though there are few steps they’ll have to complete to reactivate their new Ignition accounts. The company is throwing in a slew of bonuses and a free roll ticket to help ease the move.
Players may not actually notice much of a difference in play when they switch over to Ignition as the two companies have shared player pools for quite some time. Bovada Poker players have until September 30 to transfer their accounts to Ignition.
While the Bovada offered extensive instructions for players on how to transfer their Bovada Poker accounts to Ignition, they offered almost nothing as to why the sale took place at all.
Not surprisingly, internet forums and blogs were rife with speculation as to what was behind the deal. None of the rumors could be confirmed and it’s safe to say that most of them could be fronted with the phrase, “Many people are saying…”
The company also offered no details as to how much the deal was worth but gaming industry media estimates suggested it could be worth tens of millions of dollars.
Ignition Casino is currently licensed by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission and is owned by a company called Lynton Limited.
