Hey, big spenders: The owners of what’s probably the ultimate online gambling domain name, Gambling.com, are putting the name up for auction.
“Following a number of recent approaches from online gaming companies looking to acquire www.gambling.com, Media Corp [the domain’s current owner] has appointed Sedo, the World’s leading domain marketplace, to commence a formal process for the sale of www.gambling.com,” the company announced in a press release.
The company will hold a “formal auction process” to “achieve the best possible outcome and valuation” — in other words, to get the maximum amount of money possible for such a premium, sought-after domain name.
So, yeah, most online gaming affiliates would (could) never spend the amount of capital required to nab such a great domain name — but looking at the big picture, this is a pretty clear sign that the American business community is starting to wake up to the possibilities of online gambling. It’ll be interesting to see how much this domain eventually goes for.
