October 6, 2008 (InfoPowa News) — The U.K. online gambling company Vernons Pools reports a tenfold increase in online slots players over the last six months, with membership growth driving the jackpot of its CryptoLogic-powered 'Clover Rollover' slot game past the GBP 1.2 million mark.
The report comes in the wake of recent announcements by the Isle of Man-based Microgaming turnkey provider that its Mega Moolah online progressive jackpot has passed the GBP 4 million mark.
Vernons spokesmen say the slot jackpot at their website has grown by a noteworthy GBP 250,000 a month since April this year, increasing at a rate of GBP 10,000 a day on occasions, as online gamers strive to line up five shamrocks and claim the top prize.
It's not the only online slot game promising mammoth jackpots, as another Vernons' game, Cleopatra's Chest, has already passed the GBP 250,000 mark, with total jackpots across the seven slot games on the website reaching GBP 1.8 million and counting.
Vernons reports that recent research into online gaming trends has revealed that currently 62 percent of online slot machine players are female, with the game proving particularly popular with players aged between 35 and 50. As the number of overall online gamers and levels of spending continues to buck the economic trend, it has been slots that have seen the biggest jump in popularity, being simple to play and offering higher chances to win than many other popular games.
Martin Williams, e-gaming manager for Vernons.co.uk, said: "It seems that there's no limit to the size of jackpots that can be won on online slots. Having our Clover Rollover jackpot rise by up to GBP 10,000 a day is simply staggering, and demonstrates the growth of the online slot machine phenomenon across the U.K."
Vernons Pools was recently acquired by Liverpool-based Sportech plc, owners of The New Football Pools. The group, comprised of Vernons, Littlewoods, and Zetters, provides online gambling, football pools, sports betting, lotteries, and competitions to more than 700,000 regular players.
