“We wanted to give everybody back home something to cheer, to celebrate.” That’s how Greek mid-fielder Kostas Ktsouranis describes his team’s underdog success story in the Euro 2012.
Greece shocked the world by knocking off Russia 1-0 on Saturday to advance to the quarter-finals. They could potentially face odds-on favorite Germany in a match that would have some pretty serious political overtones thanks to the dismal financial situation on the Continent.
Ktsouranis is providing some serious leadership and these scrappy Greeks could go very far under his leadership in the tournament. If they do, he can count on becoming a national hero in his native land.
