As online gambling is starting to take off in Europe, Spain will be one of the most important countries to take the industry mainstream. To date, eight companies have been awarded online gaming licenses since Spain changed its online gaming regulations. On Tuesday, eCogra was fully accredited to provide online gaming services by the Spanish National Gaming Commission.
Andrew Beveridge is the CEO of eCogra, and he’s is extremely excited about the opportunities available to his company.
Over this past year, Spain has proposed changes to online gaming regulations. On the one hand, the country is calling to regulate online gambling and issue licenses to gaming companies in the Eurozone. At the same time, the Spanish government is calling for more severe penalties for gaming companies that operate without a license.
Spain issued its first online gaming license to Casino Gran Madrid back in May. The land-based casino wanted to take advantage of the demand for online gambling. Casino Gran Madrid has been enthusiastic about diversifying its market share and gaining online followers, despite the fact they were not able to provide online poker, Blackjack, roulette or slot machine games.
Many other gaming companies are racing to acquire gaming licenses. Clearly, they want to take advantage of Spain’s new gaming rules. One of these firms is Gaming Laboratories International (GLI). The Spanish National Gaming Commission approved Gaming Laboratories application and awarded the firm an online gaming license back in May.
eCogra, GLI and many other companies want to take advantage of the growing iGaming market in Spain. Approximately 24 million people are gambling online in Spain. These gamers are expected to spend almost $2.2 billion in online casinos before the end of the year. The market is expected to continue to grow as consumers become more used to the fact the industry is regulated.
