September 10, 2009 (CAP Newswire) – It’s unlikely that the $40,000 No Limit Hold’em Championship tournament new to this year's World Series of Poker will be featured at next year’s event, Bluff Magazine is reporting.
The event was introduced earlier this year in celebration of the WSOP’s 40th anniversary, and attracted 201 players going after a $1.9 million first prize. Despite this popularity, organizers are apparently concerned that the event overshadows the $10,000 Main Event.
Instead, next year’s WSOP is likely to feature more $1,000 events. “According to WSOP Communications Director Seth Palansky, the success of the $1,000 Hold ‘em event last year – selling out two opening days for a field of over 6,000 – means that the organisers are planning to add as many as six $1k events to the program.”
