Catarina Santos Wins Spanish Poker Tour Aranjuez

April 15, 2010 (CAP PR Wire) — Portugal’s Catarina Santos made history at the SPT Aranjuez, taking down 160 other players to become the first female champion of the Spanish Poker Tour.

The 28-year-old attorney and poker pro cashed €45,000 after winning the final heads up battle against the reigning 2009 SPT Grand Finale Champion, Team Everest’s Steven van Zadelhoff (€25,500). Madrid’s Jesús ‘Puzo’ Montes finished third and received €15,200.

A member of Everest Poker’s Portuguese Team and one of Portugal’s top poker players, Santos is thrilled to be the first champion of the 2010 Spanish Poker Tour.

“The Final Table was tough,” says Catarina. “Players had great skills and experience, but I got the right cards at the right time.”

2010 is the third season of Spain’s most popular poker tour, and the first year in which each Main Event will be broadcast live from the Tour’s official website. The SPT is presented by Everest Poker, with tournament direction from Thomas Kremser and Gerard Serra of TK Poker Events. Players from both the region and throughout Europe play the SPT because of its exceptional value, structure and organization.

161 players from all over Europe played for their share of a €150,000 at the SPT Aranjuez. 66 of the 161 participants qualified online at Everest Poker. In addition to van Zadelhoff, Maria Maceiras and Cristiano Blanco also represented Team Everest in Aranjuez. Joining them were several members of the 2010 Live the Dream Team, including Javier Martinez, Sigurd Eskeland, Tobias Wagner, Koen de Bakker, Thomas Froslev, Viktoria Szilasi and the 2nd place finisher at this year’s EPT Copenhagen, Francesco de Vivo.

The next stop on the Spanish Poker Tour is the SPT Ibiza, which will be played on May 14–16 at the Casino de Ibiza. Exclusive SPT Direct Entries are currently running three days a week at Everest Poker.
